Ok folks, after slaving over parts books and badweb for a while I noticed patterns with the numbers. Ratbuell confirmed my suspicions a while back, so I know I am not crazy.
Part numbers usually are broken down into 3 parts. First is part type, second is model, and third is usually revision and/or color codes.
For example, let’s start easy with the drive belt. The current part number is G0500.1AKE
G0500 means it’s a drive belt, all Buell belts that I know of start with this number.
After the period is 1AK, this indicates Ulysses X. Note that if a part appeared on a different bike first, it will have that bikes code. For example the foot peg springs are the same as the ones from the XB9R, so they share the code. No point in having 2 redundant part numbers!
In this case, the last letter “E” is a revision. “D” is what came on the 06-08 bikes, and the 09’s come with “E”. I don’t know the rhyme or reason with the lettering yet, as sometimes they use add an “A” on the end. The exhaust valve actuator and clutch cable retainers both end with “AAA”.

Before I continue here is a breakdown of model codes:
.1AK = XB12X
.1AU = XB12XP
.1AV = XB12XT
.1AN = XB12SS
.1AS = XB12STT
.1AC = XB12S
.1AA = XB12R
.1AE = XB9SL/XB12SCG
.1AJ = XB9SX
.1AD = XB9S
.1AM = 1125R
.1AT = 1125CR

Let’s take another part number M1224.xxxxx. These are air box covers. This one gets real fun because of how many times the changed the decals.
M1224.1AMMW is the midnight black off a 08 1125R. M1224 tells me it’s an air box cover, .1AM means first year 1125R, and MW means Midnight Black.
The 1AM will change to 2AM if the cover changes in for the next model year. In the case of the 1125R they changed the decal, so it gets a new part number. Midnight black is M1224.2AMMW.

You can do this to figure out what bike your part fits. Most parts use this system, while some older parts have a Harley Davidson numbering. If you dig through your parts book, you will be surprised how much was recycled from older models! I will post more later as I confirm more parts of it, like how all the body parts seem to start with “M”. Enjoy.
