Does anyone else have temp problems when running hot? There was a bad accident on the freeway and we had to sit for like 15 mins idling and moving a little at a time, About 13 mins into the wait bikes idle went up to 1500 from 1000 and was running all choppy. Once traffic cleared a little it took a 1/4 mile in 30 degree weather to cool down to where it would run normally. Has anyone had this happen. And is it normal when bike gets to hot, I will be buying the fan kit as soon as i can afford it! |

Injection is nice, but I'd still rather be blown! +1 on the fan! |

If you run your engine at EPA lean, a Fan is a smart move ... |

If you have a fuel injected bike, thats the program in your ECM that starts a skip fire when you start to get to hot, it fires every other rotation of the crank of somehing like that. The same thing happened to me, and everything turned out fine when I got it to cool down. Nick |

Well i have noticed this 2 times now. And each time its when sitting and idling. I wonder if the intake manifold gets to hot and the fuel vaporises to much, I think this is the issue. i dont like just sitting there idling it gets the bike to hot, Air cooled hhmmm probably a very good idea to install the fan, Especially now that i have removed the air scoop! |

Mine used to do that until I set the idle to just about 950 when hot and it stopped doing it. Also it vibrates less. Beats me why the factory suggests it idle at 1100. It vibrates the worst at that RPM.eople will tell you that it will die due to bad oil pressure but mine has been like that for 80,000 some odd miles. So your mileage may vary or whatever. |

Texastechx1 is correct according to the owners manual, the owners manual also states the engine light will flicker when over heated. |

Ditto Texastech and JRamsey. If you've ever wondered why X1's got a scoop on the LH side, now you know. Engine cooling rocks. Buell developed this after experiencing issues with Buells on the Autobahn. |

It's not always a good idea to strip down for looks, some of that stuff is there for a reason. |

I striped mine down over a year ago, I never have any problems... because I cut traffic if I've been sitting for too long. |

I set traffic on fire, and then jump over it using a nearby tilt-trailer or car-hauler for a ramp. |

I was going to go into my usual spiel about making the bike breathe better and run cooler by installing the race ECM intake and pipe -- but your profile says you already did this. That scoop on the X1 might help cool it when you're moving but it'll retain a lot of heat around the motor when you're not. My dealer bought and installed the fan kit for me when I experienced the same problem every time I tried to ride the city in the summer -- I'd definitely get the kit and run the highest octane gas you can afford. |

This could be a mere coincidence but my bike seems to run cooler after I replaced the oil with Royal Purple 20-50. |

My X1 does this in bad traffic jams. I added the after market fan when it kicks on and prolongs the bike from ideling like that when it gets hot. When this happens I ususally change the oil after. I know Picky K |
