Putting the feelers out for a second bike purchase. I am interested in purchasing a used post '99 Buell tuber bike, though my choices might be limited. I'm 6'6", 250lbs, and I've started to check out a few M2 Cyclones, though is there anything else that would fit me for afternoon jaunts and the occasional 800 mile round trip tour? A HD-powered cafe racer sounds like my best option. I already own a '08 KLR650 which is a nice 'round town bike, but it feels a bit weak on the interstate and really isn't designed to ride over 70mph. What you you all recommend? I'll spend most of my time carving the curves in SE Kentucky and might make the occasional track day. |

I am 6'7" and 225 lbs. My S-3 and my M-2 fit great! As recommended above, get a 2001 -2002 if you can. Strange thing is that I didn't even have to change the handlebars! Try one. You will like it. |

Al @ American Sport Bike has a NICE M2 you might want to eyeball. If I was going to buy a tour style tuber, His would be the one! |

+1 on M2, S3 or S2. They have the most comfy seating arrangements. If you dig, you can still find the "touring" peg brackets for S2T - they give you a 1" peg drop - and will work on any male-mount footpeg. I have them on my S2 (I'm 6'4" with 34" inseam) and can ride it all day long. The nice thing about them? If you have a track day or just a 'wild hair' and need/want more clearance, you just invert them - 1" higher pegs, more cornering clearance |

I am 6'3"and am on the X1 team here too. In stock trim, the air filter is moved forward, giving more knee room. The stock bodywork still chafed my legs on long trips so I removed it and have been running a forcewinder for several thousand miles. If you're going to leave it stock, the X1 will be most knee-friendly. If you get an M2 and replace the breadbox with a forcewinder, you would have the low pegs and also the knee clearance. When I sat on an X1 for the first time, I knew it was right for me though. Same reason I bought a XB12X 8 years later |

I live in Sassafras, KY, between Carr Creek Lake and Hazard, KY. Mt. Sterling is about 75 miles from where I live. The X1 certainly looks nice, but is it built with a high-strung V-twin, or does have a mellow power band? |

I'll be driving to NE Indiana next week, so I will be passing through Winchester on my way there and back. |

im not sure what you mean by high strung. I do know that the m2 is sopposed to have a more user freindly power band than the x1 but that is because it has less agressive cams. However the x1 puts out more peak horse power. |

Just be aware a KLR and a tuber are on completely different sides of the spectrum when it comes to motorcycles. I never had to turn a wrench when I owned mine -- but then I also never got any real rush riding it either. Except the few times that I thought it might be fun trying to take it single tracking. Rush is an understatement. I say find a later S3 -- mines been a hoot -- |

I know it's an understatement. I've had to turn quite a few wrenches on my KLR650 as I've added SW Motech bars and a few other items. The crash bars were a chore to install. It is indeed a boring ride and in a perfect world, I'd like to trade it in for a Buell that has a more user friendly powerband. Something like the S3, M2 or a used Uly seem more appropriate than a lightning. |

Another option worth looking into for a tall fella would be an XB9sx. those are minimalistic and tallish. Also, the XB12TT was a sales flop but most agree that it was awesome for tall people. You can probably find killer deals on leftovers. These two choices are great for tall fella with no passenger but the uly is still the best choice for carrying someone along. |

I don't need to pillion. I'm too new of a rider to trust myself with a girlfriend up in back, especially in a dangerous situation. I'll be passing by the HD/Buell dealer in Pikeville, KY tomorrow to see if they'll work with me on a trade-in for a leftover bike. I've already heard of two year old XB9's going for $3800. |

I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam & 37" arms. I have a '99 X1. It was cramped. Changed to handlebars from a Blast (same as S3T) & lowered to pegs with peg mounts from a S2T. The handle bars were cheap, the peg mounts are pricey if bought new from dealer. With these changes the bike fits great, very comfortable. The stock air box is not an issue. |

I think S3 and X1 share the same powerband, right? I am 6'4 and fit on all tubers quite comfortably. If ridden 2-up a lot, I would however not recommend the S1. Most touring room and comfort you will find on a S3T, high zero gravity windshield and Corbin Seat. Almost as good as the Uly... IMHO |

My S3, with Corbin seat and Zero Gravity high tinted windshield, fit me better than any other bike has. 6'4", fat. I use Flanders handlebars, which helped me. |

At 6 foot even I feel like I'm barely tall enough for my X1. These bikes are made for tall people. Nice thing about the X1s are IMO easier to work on. Particularly belt changes. And they look the most like CAFE racers. Not sure if an X1 would be the best for 800 miles though. But I'd still go with it and suffer through the ride. |

There is also a very nice M2 at a great price in the classified section. I would have snapped it up if my wife stopped nagging me... |
