So my bike was in the shop about 3 weeks ago cause it was only running on one cylinder, They fixed got it back to running good and told me to let the bike warm up for a long time before i take off in cold weather temps...Fixed under warrenty.. Well tonight i was leaving a party and started my bike.. put my helmet a gloves on.. and let it run for a bit to warm up.. I get about 5 blocks away.. hit 3rd gear going up a small hill and Kaaaboom..starts popping and running really bad.. and exhaust and gas fumes are spraying all over my left knee and leg.. bike dies on me a few times.. but i nurse it home.. and then about 4 blocks from my house the yellow engine light came on.. So what happend? Will my dealer fix this under warrenty as well??? What do i tell them on tuesday when the open? should i ride my bike over there or tow it??? |

Tow it, and if the bike is under warranty then it will be fixed under warranty. |

Last time when my bike started to run on only one cylinder the dealer came to get the bike at my house no charges. |

Sounds to me like the dealer forgot to tighten up the spark plugs I'm betting they replaced. If that's the case, they had better take care of it!!!!(it will probably need a cylinder head, if that's the case) Yeah, they should be towing it, free of charge, regardless! |

Yup sounds like the dealer forgot to tighten the plug. Same thing happened to me but I was 200 miles from home. That was the last time the dealer worked on my bike. I replaced the head. |

So should i call them and tell them to come pick it? It still runs but really rough... and has a strong gas smell.. and as i sit on the bike and try to fire it, its back fires and sputters on the inside of my left knee from like under the airbox. I have a towing service from the dealer from "connectOne"... guess its time to use them! I still dont know what happend.. but 2 weeks ago when it happend it was the front cylinder.. now i think its the back cylinder... could it have been from not letting the motor warm up enough??? So this should get fixed for free??? (Message edited by bearracing on November 24, 2008) |

Call the service manager up, tell him you were just in the dealer for this problem and get them to tow the bike! Don't talk to a service advisor. Tell them you smell fuel and feel it is unsafe to ride. |

Biggest thing, and this is HARD to do in a situation like this where you're bound to be aggravated...don't "tell" the dealer to come pick it up. ASK if they can come pick it up, as you feel it's unsafe to ride. REMIND them (NICELY) that it was just in there for engine work, if that information wasn't already gone over during the conversation. More flies with honey, and all that. (Can you tell this comes from the "other" side of the counter?) |

Dealer came to my house today at noon with a van and picked my bike up today. No need for me to ask them to pick the bike up. Cause before i could even ask in a nice way. They had already offered, and had some one on there way to my house as i was on the phone with them. So ill know tomorrow what happend.. stay tuned! Thanks for all your guys input... Ps. My dealer is Riverfront Harley-Davidson / Buell Shop in North Lawrence Kansas... Really nice people there!! Awesome place!! |

You will not have to pay anything, thats the great thing about warranties. Having 2 years is also what makes Buell so great! |

Hidden cost? Unless you consider lost riding time a hidden cost you won't be out a cent. |

Bearracing, It will take some getting used to, but you are with a company that will actually stand behind your/their bike. They don't hide costs and ding you. They fix it and pat you on the back and say get back on it. I like Buell. |

Got my bike back today!! News was that the rear cylinder head was only 2 or 3 threads deep for the spark plug to screw into. Came from the factory that way... So yes it blew out.. Cause some damage to the threads of the head. They was shocked that it didnt happen alot sooner. As i already have 2,000 miles on the bike. My dealer rethreaded all the heads deeper. Put new plugs on now im set.. So just be aware you new buell buyers.. Check your cylinder heads cause my bike might not be the only one this happend to.. Thanks again to everyone to replied to this thread for the info.. Ps... no money outta my pocket for the work... BUELL is WAYYYYY COOOL!!!!!! |

It was someone else's screwup, why would you have to pay? Did you have the 1000 mile service done by your dealer? My dealer changes the plugs with the 1000, did yours? Glad to see your back up and running |

So...I'm no genius but did they remove the heads to tap them out??? That is some risky business if they didn't as that material has to go somewhere and a shop vac isn't the answer. Just wandering... |

Yes i had my 1000 mile service done by my dealer.. guess they didnt catch the spark plug only threaded in 3 threads...hmmm Yes they took the heads off... and drilled the spark plug threads deeper and checked for damage. As well as any other missed areas by the factory. Installed new plugs.. its back to running awesome again.. but now its snowing this weekend here in kansas.. |
