I had thought that the #1 999R was returned to Ducati Corse after the Long Beach IMS. It was never actually owned by Ducati of Oceanside... but I've certainly been wrong before! The 999R that Kopecky ran was used as the centerpiece of the Ducati booth at the IMS with its #1 plate. The Rapp record is freaking amazing when you realize how freaking fast that really IS! |

Steve Rapp set the Willow track record by winning the pole at the 2000 AMA Superbike race the last time the AMA raced at Willow. The reason Shawn Higbee dominates at Willow is because he is a former factory AMA Superbike racer racing against club racers. Brian Pairriot does the same thing in the AFM series dominating Ducati club racers in the Twin class on his BMW1200HP2 sport. The real test for the Buell 1125R and the BMW 1200HP2 sport will come next year when they race against AMA riders in the DaytonaSportbike class. I hope Buell and BMW step up and support this class because the DMG made this class so they can compete at the highest level of American racing. The Buells and the BMWs have a huge cc advantage over the 600s so it is going to be all about the riders if they can not win it is because their riders are not fast enough. Will find out at Daytona if the Buell 1125R can compete because Yamaha will have 4 factory riders racing in the Daytona 200 including Ben Bostrom and Josh Hayes.By the way that Ducati with #1 plate might be from Ben Bostroms 1999 Vance Hines Ducati that he raced in 1999 because he was the 1998 champ. I have seen it at Sears point under the Ducati tent. http://www.amaproracing.com/00rr/rosamond/sb/h/ind ex.html |

The real test for the Buell 1125R and the BMW 1200HP2 sport will come next year when they race against AMA riders in the DaytonaSportbike class. Given BMW's comittment to World Superbikes and the new IL4 1000 in 2009, I wouldn't hold out too much hope of seeing a full factory 1200 HP2 Sport at Daytona. More likely that you'll see last years bike running as a dealer supported 'semi factory' bike for Nate Kern + 1 other rider rather than anything new. I agree with Amafan regarding Buell in the new AMA series, although I still think it will be a poison chalice for the big bore bikes racing against the smaller capacity machines. |

San Jose BMW was going to race the full 2008 AMA FX schedule but could not find enough sponsors. Thry did race at Sears point and Laguna seca so I hope maybe with the new rules and class for 2009 they can find enough sponsors to race the entire schedule. |

Well, I think for everyone, the new questions are based on a lot of different things. First, the purse money is actually more representative of the cost of an AMA weekend. With no dyno limits being talked about now, I think that makes it a little harder for some to compete that don't have direct factory involvement yet. I don't see that bike availability has changed, so most will still struggle getting the newest bike. Based on that ad for a Buell mechanic/technician being wanted, I'd assume that something is happening for Buell right now. Testing for the upcoming season has generally started by the end of October for the Japanese US teams. It's going to be interesting certainly. |
