I'm still waiting for top end gasket after my thread repair. Bike leaking oil but not too bad (or so I thought). Nice weather (well, mid-30s and 40s) so go for one of my favorite 540-mile rides. Stopped at the 150-mile point for gas, and the whole rear of the bike (swingarm, fender, etc.) was soaked in oil!! Even the rear tire was oiled and my favorite curves were ahead (eek!) So head home, tail twixt my legs. Wait for gaskets to arrive and tear it down again. Gettin' tired of this. |

Let me know if your up for a break-in ride on the Thanksgiving weekend. Sorry to hear about the gasket issues. Does the manual say anything about retorque of the heads once you run it and get the engine hot? I know in most aviation applications we retorque after a runup and everything got warm and cooled back down. Sometimes things would loosen up some and some times torque was good to go. I know access to everything is a PITA but it might be worth checking before you tear down and see if the bolts were as tight as they were when you installed. |

The Buell does not need retorqued. It would only affect the base seal and the head gasket. I think Dr. Greg would notice either one of these leaking. He's most likely leaking from the rocker area where you can't see it very easy. Sorry to hear it got so bad so quick! |

Check your rear brake pads Dr_greg! Eager to hear how you get this sorted out, bummer though... Is it possible one of your PCV hoses isn't attached? (Message edited by xbimmer on November 17, 2008) |

Rear brake? What is this rear brake you speak of? Nah, both breather hoses are fine. I'm sure the oil leak is at the cylinder/head interface. Actually the bike is rideable for my short commute (5 mi). But no rides of any length till leak fixed. Sigh. |
