Well after 2 new clutches in the last 5 days and now 6 weeks of failed efforts of trying to fix the problem, by the way I've had the bike for 8 weeks, they are supposed to give me the number to BMC legal department and talk to some woman can't remember her name. The bike is better than ever but has clutch creep and shifting is extremely hard. Finding nuteral at a light with out hitting second seems to be a magic trick. Anyway maybe this bad dream is coming to an end. If they give me a refund does anyone know if the 09 is any better or should I stick with an 08 and just get it flashed? They have 12 R's to choose from, all the way from a serial# in the 300's up to 2 that are August 08 built bikes. I chose this one because it had the latest build date of them all, look how that worked out... more to come latter. By the way I love the bike!!! Any advice? Les |

Is it possible that now it just has some air in the clutch slave cyl. causing the clutch not to release all the way? That should be a simple fix. If you take the black cap off the clutch cover that covers the slave piston you can see the movement when the clutch lever is pulled. It would be interesting to measure the movement of the piston and compare it to a known good one. I wonder if their is a specification for slave piston travel. I could measure mine if you would like. |

clutches really are not like some magical mystical engineering marvel that only god-like powers can understand. its nothing short of amazing that your dealer cannot fix it. thats pretty rediculous. i would trade it for a different one. |

Where is Court...he's needed again for input/help here. This is really out of "our" ability to advise upon, let alone, understand yet. |

Looks like he is just asking whether he should get an '09 R or a left over '08 as it seems he is going the lemon route. So in answer to that question I think you just got a bum bike. Guess depends on your pocket book and what deal they are offering on the '08s. Given the change on suspension components after 7/17 I would go with an 08 build date after that or a an '09. Would be nice to see what all the changes to the 09 are like though. |

>>>>they are supposed to give me the number to BMC legal department and talk to some woman can't remember her name. Who is "they"? Who is the lady in legal? How did she forget her name and how is that germane to a clutch? How does she play into this? My take is that you need your clutch fixed. Don't get too many balls in the air too soon. The first OPINION I'd throw out is to tread lightly using the term "legal" as it changes EVERYTHING. As an example. The legal folks do not fix, repair or replace clutches. To be honest they don't really understand them well. In addition, and I'm **assuming** (as most would that you are intending a law suit) one you abandon the "cure" path and initiate the "sue" path you effectively close all other avenues. You've heard the "I'm sorry, I can't discuss that, it's in litigation". I understand your frustration. But (and this is PURELY MY PERSONAL ADVISE) I'd urge you to act with a plan and not in haste. Now, what did the Buell techs say when your dealer contacted them about the continuing problem after they worked on the bike? |

NO Law SUIT Ser Manager Dave after telling him the problems that were still there yesterday, replied to me, that he would call Buell's head of service and explain what had been decided by Manccuso And the Buell Eng's on Tuesday,''That if a new clutch and all other fixes that have been done didn't fix it'',Then it was time to go another direction. The woman in the legal dept.is supposed to take care of swapping bikes or buy it back. That is what they decided, not me. I have kept my cool and made no threats, but only asked them to be judicious with their time. This was Info told to me, I only shook my head up & down and said yes. As I am not at all familiar with how Buell does a buy back or an exchange, I don't know if SM Dave is giving me the buisness or telling me the truth. But I will call him again to make sure he understands my intentions VERY Clearly That I want another bike, but through the normal channels w/ NO LAWYERS involved. Court, Does this sound more like what is normal or do you think Dave has misundersood what I want. I'm a by stander in this whole thing & plan to stay that way!!! Les |

Court said; As an example. The legal folks do not fix, repair or replace clutches. To be honest they don't really understand them well. It's a conundrum, either does his service department. |

The good news is that even in the event of a buyback legal has little involvement. There is an entire department dedicated to and experienced in dealing with those cases. I imagine he does understand but, and hooray for this, most dealers have (and it's a good thing) very little experience. The first thing I'd suggest he do, if he has not already, is to make certain the Buell techs who came to work on the bike know that the clutch is still not working right. The "goal line", at this point and in my eyes, is to get your bike fixed. Keep us posted. If you get a chance send me your contact info and let's make darn sure you're getting taken care of. |

""The "goal line", at this point and in my eyes, is to get your bike fixed. "" I disagree a bit with that statement Court. I would feel that after many failed attempts at "fixing" the clutch....the goal should now be to get him a replacement BIKE that he can ride and call "trouble free" disclaimer...but this is only MY opinion and I ASSume many things about numerous things that I know nothing about and don't care about so it doesn't matter to me |

Sounds like something inside the engine cases is not right. Either it was that way from the beginning, or got that way from (5???) attempted repairs. As far as a replacement, I'd opt for an 09, unless you want the distinction of owning one of the first. I'm very happy with Loretta and proud of her "first week build" status. Still an "Amazing motorcycle" as described many times. Best of luck, Les, sounds like BMC, you, SM Dave and Mancuso's are doing the right things. Z |

I believe the guys name is jerry @ BMC that is in contact with Manccuso. He called SM Dave to ask how the bike was and Dave told him What I've shared with yall. He wanted me to bring the bike back so Dave could ride it to confirm my complants. I told Dave to let me keep it and I would give it a good thrashing this week end and see if it helped. The reason I say this is from last night, after riding hard it seemed to help the clutch from engaging during riding. you can feel it pulling in at about 4500rpm causing a surge.(not the same as before the flash type surge.) And for a while on the way to work it was perfect!!! smoooooth even could find nutral at a lite. He agreed that would be better then him putting 30 miles on it and calling the game off of that... We'll see Monday. I got a 500 mile week end ahead and hope to enjoy it with one of my son's on his rise burner... I guess I'll have to wear dark shades. I was also told today that big brother watches this sight, if you ever wondered if we have their ear, We Do, at the top levels. Hope they enjoy our brand of humor. Thanks guys, Latter, Les Hows that for a clout... |

Keep me posted. If . . . and I am for darn sure not the world's techiest in this sicko crowd. . . I were a betting guy . . I'd wager on some residual crapulation. Beat the piss out of it this weekend and let us know what's up. If they can't straighten it out. . . I'll come ride the darn thing and while the "top levels" are laughing we'll kick'em in the corporate shins. In all seriousity . . . Buell is committed to making things like this right. Some of the tasks currently underway are amazing for an American Company. Next time you see Jon Flickinger or Erik . . thank them. |

Court, Krassh, Sly, You Guys were right!!! Calling CS and stating my case calmly, along with persistent Service Manager Dave's help is getting it done. Maybe not as soon as I would have liked but; ''one man a market does not make'' Today I give my well handling, perfect shifting 90% of the time, beloved 25R back to Manccuso HD for what I understand to be the final time or at least for a final decision to be made. SM Dave told me to bring it back today, if it was still clutch creeping and if I could still feel it pulling in & out we would go in another direction. Because in everyones opinion, as of last week, all attempts to fix the problems have failed. It feels the same as the old flash @ 2500rpm used to feel, just @ 38-4000rpm now. Nothing has changed since friday. Thanks for all yall's support that kept me from making an a$$ out of myself, that would have got me absolutely no closer to a resolution because of it. Buell Customer Service Has My Absolute Confidence & Mr. Erik Buell and your great Engineering staff, thanks for the opportunity to see Customer Service done right. Les |

I think this is an affirmation of the value of this site and the participants contributions. We are so lucky to have BWB as a tool to share info and resolve problems. |

It's great to be able to see this worked out right in front of our eyes and for anyone who may be lurking herein. This makes me appreciate even more the community we are a part of here on BWB and as Buell owners. As an aside, who do you mean by Big Brother and how do you know? |

From what I understand from SM Dave, The people he has been in contact with are very aware of the individual issues raised here. Aside from the Service managers that call them about situations they are handling. In other word they read to, just anonymously. It's great to know they care enough watch. Les |

Sometimes I wonder what owners do that don't know the way to fix your bike is located here and Court is the gate keeper. It should be in the owners manual. |

Every time I sell a Buell part, I ask them if they know about BWB. I'm amazed at the number who aren't aware. Been trying to get my little brother to at least lurk, for a year. As far as I'm concerned, BWB is an integral part of the Buell Community, a community without parallel. Z |

The crepp is unpredictable. At a light if neutral is hard to find just kill it and restart. OEM syn oil changed 4 times at 1st serv, 2 at the time they left it (oil light)low from that serv,3 when they replaced the 1st clutch and 4 second clutch( not by me ) Surge at around 4000rpm. Feels like chain lash or pre 3rd flash now. It's best felt if left in 1st or 2nd then it becomes more prenounced. Past that the the road make it impossible to feel. Hope this helps, les |

At temperatures this time of year being 50F low & 80F high it acts the same no pattern. Jerry told SM Dave to have me reinstall and ride the week end w/ stock levers. I also renioded it, put the enter cover back on to eliminate any thing I might cause, like butterfly's shuttering ( no wire or zip ties yet just unhooked the cable end & Buell $6 plug. No light, ever) I removed the Trojan steering Dampener & Glad I didn't install the Traction grips, Rear Light kit, and tidy tail yet, I'd be out of luck and paying them for some OEM parts...? Les |

I bet you guys are as tiered of hearing about this, as I am dealing with it. Jerry w/ BMC, did call SM Dave yesterday. Dave told me to bring the bike back in today for another tare down, to check the back clutch plate to see if it had warped again. The bike has been in his shop since Tuesday AM, guess the girls forgot to tell him. He said ''Oh is that your bike I been walking past all week?'' They're taring into it now and should have some type of real answer on what to do with it next week...? Have a great week end guys from High 60's to low 70's here is sunny Houston Tx, all week end...
