I was at the Eagles nest HD shop last night. I was looking at the new 1125CR. I like it. But that's not what I was wondering. Does the new xb12r in the year of 08 still have the oil cooler leak from the fitting's? I noticed that they changed up a few things. I have a '06 and I still can't get that thing to stop. I have thread sealant on there right now and it still leaks a little. It just wants to be a 'Hardley', and have a leak. Can the '08 set-up be put on the '06? I hate the leak....thanks Aaron | ||

Where is this leak at ? You shouldn't need thread sealer at all. Need more info, pictures would help too. | ||

The threads on the fittings don't even cone in contact with the oil. They merely pull a male and female taper together (flare). If there is a flaw on either the male or the female it will leak. Same thing if there is foreign matter in the connection. I would take it apart and give it a visual. | ||

I gave it a visual when I put the sealant on. this is my second oil cooler. First one also leaked. but, It is a Harley... kinda. So no one has had any problem from the '08 I take it? | ||

It's probably a crack in the line where it's flared. | ||

my oil cooler had a random leak in it, then I tried to throw in some JBweld in the facinity of the leak and it plugged/stopped the leak. After replacing it to the bike the oil lines attached to the cooler started to leak.... and i checked my owners manual, and it told me it was time to replace the oil lines. being the shady-tree-mechanic that I am, i said •••• it and kept riding. In the end, the oil coagulated together and self-plugged the leaks, problem solved. Pay checks later, I replaced the oil cooler with a new one. | ||

I wouldn't use any type of sealant that could even possibly get itself in my oil and travel like a blood clot. | ||

What kind of pipe sealant did you use? Teflon paste? That's what I always use and have never had a leak. I haven't looked at the oil lines on my bike, but if they have a flare on the end like automotive brake lines, then pipe sealant on the threads won't help because the oil will leak past the fitting, not past the threads. | ||

Twice I've had oil litterally spewing from the cooler return line at the pump. Both times repaired under waranty...new fittings both times. The 2nd time I could see they used thread sealant and have'nt had a problem since. This on an '08 xb btw. | ||
