Matt, you're making the same mistake that many others have. I never said anything about Henry Duga personally. It's the idea that I would not be worthy of race status when my 1125 is not street legal, I bought it for track use, and have spent a lot of money (although not with you yet cause you haven't posted the details and availability on those great looking rearsets) on outfitting the bike for racing. Henry is fine fellow. He has always been helpful to a point. That point is the race ECM. |

The POINT is that there is a well established procedure that requires you work THROUGH YOUR DEALER. It's spelled out rather clearly. Quit your whining, go read and follow it. Stop reading the Internet and go race. Court |

Dude, where did I ever say that I wasn't going through my dealer? I did not just call Henry. This is an ongoing process that started with my dealer. Before you start flaming people you should get your facts straight. And, I'm not whining. I asked for advice. It's so frustrating to address issues when people like you distort the facts and falsely label you. |

Let me break it down for you . . .
quote:YOU ASKED: If you were me what would you do?
Cool .. great place to ask for advice here on Badweb
quote:YOU SAID: Today I was talking to Henry Duga about getting a race ECM. Last weekend I got my race license from ASMA, here in New Mexico. Henry said he didn't think it would be enough to buy the ECM.
Calling Henry, as the "Race PArts Procedure" pretty clearly spells out, BEFORE you've completed the paperwork and have your dealer submit it is a bit of a waste of your time and Henry's unless you just want to chat. The APPROVED PAPERWORK is a CONDITION PRECEDENT" to being able to order race parts.
quote:YOU SAID: I have a chance to test a new exhaust system that has been developed for the 1125. The developer would like me to have a race ECM so that I can try their maps. I need that ECM for my race bike.
"Testing" for an aftermarket vendor is not sufficient basis for obtaining race parts. Buell has another procedure for getting parts to bonafide aftermarket developers. You need to decide if you are a TESTER or a RACER and proceed accordingly.
quote:YOU SAID: Here's my beef. I bought my 1125R to ride on the track. Once it was broke in it was stripped of all street gear and has not been back on the street. In fact most of the street gear is now in storage.
Explain to me why buying an 1125R for the track is a "beef". MANY people have done that, Steve crashed his at 12-MPH a couple weeks ago here, bought replacement parts and is riding it again. Many 1125R's are becoming "RACE ONLY" or "TRACK ONLY" bikes . . . no one else has had a "beef" about it
quote:YOU SAID: I just spent about $1200 on race fiberglass body parts. I only ride on DOT race tires. I'm setup with stands front and back so that I can use tire warmers. The jiffy stand (HD's term) comes off when I install the belly pan. My 1125 is no longer a street bike. I spend about $800 a weekend to ride. The bike is transported in my fifthwheel toyhauler. I may be a little guy here in New Mexico, but I am serious about my track bike. And, BTW I'm the only Buell racer in southern New Mexico (for sure I'm the only 1125 racer in the entire state).
While all that is fun reading, it's totally unrelated to the topic at hand. Spending more doesn't circumvent the qualification process.
quote:YOU SAID: Why should I ride a bike that the manufacturer won't support me on?
This is where you went afoul. Buell. . . . read this aloud founded by a small privateer racer is MORE SUPPORTIVE OF SMALL PRIVATEERS THAN ANY MOTORCYCLE COMPANY IN HISTORY You see at this point many of us with LOTS of experience started doubting your credibility.
quote:YOU SAID: Two weeks ago I road a race Kawasaki liter bike at my home track, Arroyo Seco (BTW Chris Peris, AMA #8, set a new track record last weekend). I was impressed with the power and handling. So now I'm thinking that if BMC won't allow me to buy race parts, then why should I race a Buell? Why not get a good liter bike? So now I'm thinking of finishing this year (I have 4 more track days till the middle of December) on the 1125 and trading it in on a new '09 R1. There's parts for these bikes everywhere, and there will be more over time (besides I like the idea behind the new R1 motor). I realize that most of you have the opportunity to get a race license from a larger organization (i.e. AMA, WERA, CCS, etc.). So you're going to be supportive of BMC. But if you were me what would you do?
Pure childish sounding "mouth blather" . . . I guess I am old, tired and worn out but if you'd have started whining like that to me I'd have hung up on you. I've simply neither the time or patience. But, hey . . keep trying and see how it goes. Court |

I'm on my way to the dealer to order my ECM. Can't you find something constructive to do? |

I wasn't trying to suggest that you were in any way maligning Henry, but only to outline our experience that whilst Henry is a 100% 'diamond geezer' and extremely helpful and knowledgeable, that expertise doesn't trickle down far enough to dealers or national distributors when it comes to ordering race parts. In late 2008 it should not be the norm to have to call just one guy at the factory in order to get hold of race parts (regardless of manufacturer) and these parts should be readily available from any dealer. if you have to present a valid race licence so be it, but they should still be obtainable without having to pester the factory directly. Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki all have thousands of race parts available from hundreds of specialists worldwide, and it is certainly possible to create a Superbike spec IL4 without ever troubling the factory for race parts purely by buying aftermarket race items. As this isn't possible with the Buell 1125 yet, surely having parts available 'over the counter' through the dealer network rather then through the current, almost clandestine, ordering procedure would be a better option? If these parts are in short supply then at least people will be able to backorder them Surely if Buell want to help more people race their bikes they should make race parts readily available? |

Thanks Matt. Henry and his associate Jamie are working to help me with my racing needs. What else can I say. You're right. They're supportive and appreciated. So are the folks on this list. Thank you, Doug |

Just got the word that my license is acceptable to purchase an ECM. I want to apologize for all the dramatics I started on this list. I am suitably embarrassed and remorseful. But I sure learned a lot about the people on this list and posting here. Thank you, Doug |
