The header on my 98 cyclone has no heat shield or coating so to say it gets pretty hot is an understatement. For you guys that have wrapped your pipes, did you use the 1" or 2" wrap? And any preferences on one brand over another? I plan to use the black wrap. |

Exhaust wrap is not the answer, HEAT SHIELDS are ... All the WRAP does is to make the exhaust move thru the header faster, "BUT" the header still gets burn you hot in radiation ... |

I used the 2" black wrap from Thermotec. I had a kit from Autozone. I don't use any heat shield at all, and it's not too hot for me to ride. Make sure you soak that wrap in a bucket full of water as you do it, and wear some gloves you don't care about trashing. When it is wet, you can pull it very very tight and it will tighten up even more when it gets hot a few times. I sprayed three coats of the black silicone stuff on there before I installed the headers back and it has worked great. Good luck! |
