I have a KT pipe and I need just a little header wrap. I need to put it between two clamps so it will stop rubbing the exhaust too much. I will pay someone but just don't want to buy a whole roll of wrap for a few inches. |

The whole "IDEA" is to wrap the complete header if you want the complete wrap effect ... |

They are JetHott coated. I am simply looking for a solution to the two mouting clamps rubbing the finish off. I only need about 18-20 inches. Maybe there is a rubber type material that I could find. I just thought header wrap because of the heat issues |

It sounds like the wrap would be exposed to rubbing parts. The fiberglass wrap will tear and make a giant ugly mess if there are pieces touching it and moving. When the wrap heats up the first few times you run the engine after installing it, it hardens to the shape it is wrapped in, and becomes brittle. I'm looking for an alternative to wrap at the moment, because the rear header runs 1/4" away from the frame on my X1. With engine vibration that's enough to make it barely touch and wear out a spot in the wrap. |

You are talking about the mounting flanges correct? If so when I did a removal install I would just use low adhesion painters tape to cover the area... |

I've got some 1" wide, approx 2' of it if I remember correctly. It's all I have left of a 100' roll. If you still want/need it drop me a line and I'll put it in the mail. Michael |

Skntpig, I found my header wrap. Do you still need some? Eric |

I still don't know if that is the best method of isolating the clamps from scratching the header pipes. I just thought that may be the best option that wouldn't melt. What do you think? Is the header wrap going to chaffe(sp?) the pipe too? |

I still don't know if that is the best method of isolating the clamps from scratching the header pipes. Take some blue painters tape, low adhesion. Tape up the first 4 inches of header lose. Use a bit of tape to secure the flanges so they don't rattle when installing. Then remove tape after install. Easy peasy lemon squeezy |

If you use header wrap, schmear it with some ultra-black hi-temp RTV silicone. I did that on my S1W pipe when I wrapped it, at the ends of the wrapping, and no fraying yet (three years of riding with the wrap on). Just work the RTV in there good, really saturate the ends with it, and it will glue the wrap together nicely. |
