Hi, 4 week old blast oil level ? At 1.5 weeks old I checked the level and it was at the bottom of the stick. Added 3/4 quart and raised level about 2/10ths higher. Added the rest of the quart and raised the level just a hair. The following week I added 10 oz's more and the level went to the bottom of the top arrow on the stick. So I was fine with that level. Have been riding every day to brake in. When ever I have been doing the oil level check the bike has been warmed up for at least 10 min. Yesterday before going for a ride let it warm up checked level and it was at the bottom of the top arrow. Just where I wanted it. Rode for about 15 miles stopped checked level and was just below middle. Checked again when I got home and was just below middle. I read some of the other postings about oil so I thought I would get some input from you all. Am I being totally paranoid about this ????? Psycho ????? Thanks, cringblast. |

I'm glad you asked, Blast oil level is kind of tricky. BTW, congrats on the bike. Is it brand new? First, you have to check the oil with the bike hot, which you seem to be doing. One thing I found is you actually have to ride the bike to get it hot enough. You can't just let it idle. If you try, the heads will get very hot and the crankcase will be relitivly cold. When you added the 3/4 quart of oil, I'm pretty sure you overfilled the bike. It only takes a few oz to move it from the low line to the high line. If you overfill, it will blow the oil out of the breather line into your airbox. Take off the airbox cover and see how much oil is in there. As you have noticed, it is very difficult to get a consistent oil reading on the Blast. It is also hard on the bike and blows oil all over the place if you overfill it. Here is how I handle this. First, shoot for a target oil level that is half way between the lines when the bike is warmed up. Don't think the bike works better to have it all the way up to the top line. It's a dry sump system. Filling it up to the top doesn't change the oil level in the engine. Anywhere between the lines is fine. When you get back from a ride, check your oil level. If it is less than 1/2 between the lines, add 1 funnel full of oil (about 1 cup.) If it's over 1/2 way, don't add any at all. This keeps you from over filling the bike, and it keeps you from getting to low. |

Thanks Jlnance, I got it new. First bike. I will check the airbox this eve. Wish I could check it now gotta wait till I get home. I think I got it at the level that is good. I will just monitor it. Sounds good about the less than 1/2 add if more than 1/2 dont add. Only a (funnel full) I will try this and see what happens. Thanks for the info. |

Cringblast - You made an excellent choice of first bike. Are you like me and got it because you just took a Riders Edge class which used Blasts? BTW - There isn't anything wrong with having oil in your airbox. It does tend to accumulate in there. It just gets messy when it seeps out. |

Actually I had decided to get the Kawasaki Ninja 600. I was on my way to buy one when I decided to stop at the Harley dealership it was on the way to the kawasaki place. Needless to say I never made it to the kawasaki. I'll give a shout when I open the air box this eve and post what I find ?????? |

Jlnance, Checked air box and absolutley nothing but air there. I think that the bike was not maintained properly at the dealer before I got it. The reason I say this is from that after I had it for a week I decided to check tire pressure. Each tire had 15lbs of air each. So I inflate to proper pressure and no problem since. I feel that they did not properly maintain it since they got the bike. I think that and hate to say they are very slow selling bikes(Buell). Well I got it now and will do my best to take proper care. Oil is at mid stick and has been there since I fill it. Guess it was really low from the beginning. Am going to Daytona in the morning and am going to stop by Buell and talk to them. Its only 2 hours away. New at this and love it so far so any info I can get is good. Thanks for your help. |

Welcome to the board Cringblast! A helpful tip is check your oil after you ride it, and top it off then. The Blast will use oil as you are breaking it in, it will probably take 4000 miles or so till it really starts to run the way it should. During your break-in you really need to run it like it was supposed to, don't lug it and don't over-rev it but roll the thottle on hard, then let off, then roll it on again. Also, when you are warming it up are you letting it idle for 10 minutes? You live in a fairly warm climate, as soon as you Blast comes off "fast idle" you should be ready to ride. If you just idle it for 10 minutes you can over heat it because it is an air cooled engine and needs to be moving to get proper cooling. Also the engine is not making optimal oil pressure at idle. As soon as you can you should change the primary carburetor jets to a larger size than stock, 45-48, and adjust you idle mixture adjustment screw to 2 1/2- 3 turns out from a light bottom. Doing so will really improve you low rpm driveability and help the Blast out during the warm up. The Blast really likes a rich air fuel mixture. Again welcome to the board and Let the madness begin! |

Swampy, When I am warming it up is just about the time to get ready, about 5 min. Have been checken it during ride and when I get back. I've got it at half stick now so that where I'll keep it. Adding when I get back. Next I am gonna jet and do the idle mix screw and get the V&H exhaust. Saw a Blast today with V&H. Would like to find black exhaust but have not been able to find one so far. Thanks for the help !!! The madness has begun !!! |

I'm also a new owner of a blast, I recently bought a 2003 with 2400 or so miles. But anyways, i think the black exhaust you are talking about is the D and D exhaust. Their website is http://www.danddexhaust.com at least i think that is correct. |
