If, as Trojan said, "The answer so far is: No there isn't one, yet", then I wonder why we're still talking about it. When there IS one, let's have this conversation again. Otherwise we're just pissing up a rope. |

How does 21 broken belts automatically point to the stock 'springless' tension pulley configuration as the root cause? Please xplain to me? If it's a poor design then man, those engineers at Buell are really dumb. They have had it on 7 model years of xb's and then they are dumb enough to carry it over to the LOKI platform. Surprised they still have jobs. "I don't have to,Free Spirits already proved it" Funny, I haven't seen the engineering proof as Sly requested......please, a lot of us are anxiously waiting |

All good points and I didn't mean to pi$$ anyone off, if I did, with what I threw in this mix. I trust that is not the case. I agree, there is always room for improvement no matter the subject matter, a part, a product or even this communication! Nothing IS "perfect" but many things are damn close to what that word really means. Individuals make that choice and more so than not, acceptable wins. Sometimes tho...one needs to stand back and look at what they are attempting to improve upon. Is it really worth the effort, pertaining to all given examples? Intake, exhaust (tuffy), tag mounts, bodywork, internal engine components, brakes, wheels, levers, mirrors, seats and on and on...yes, some improvements can be made...and already have! ...with more new stuff still in the works! This is a good thing! I tend to look at what effort has been put into what ever I'm looking at in order to determine an improvement's finding. Kind of, reverse engineer it, if I were the one that originally made what ever it is that I'm trying to improve. While looking at earlier models with belt drive and/or an idler system might prove viable to those models... I still cannot grasp a major leap of improving this one area, ON THESE motorcycles, meaning and only relevant to; THE 1125R & CR. I respect all that think outside the box! I also appreciate the outside vendors that are and are not affiliated with HD/BMC. This offers more input and more open sharing in understanding. (THE MAJOR BENEFIT TO BADWEB IN MY OPINION...AND WHY I LOVE UNDERSTANDING ALL OF YOU INVOLVED!) The aftermarket has just as many talented folks as those within. I hope that you all take another look at this model and forget what you might be preconditioned from earlier examples/ experience...that's all. Just in case one of you finds an improvement herein and can prove via math/engineering lingo...then sell examples of as a viable improvement on THIS platform... I'll have my lip gloss ready for that very reluctant kiss... Its all good, mm |

21 broken belts points to a problem. The problem has been addressed by the aftermarket industry. It may not be an issue with Buell but for the people with broken belts, it obviously is. the spring loaded belt tensioner still keeps the required amount of tension on the belt but when the tension is increased, it adjusts for it. For someone to say more tension is good is to general of a statement. To much tension is not good. The design encompasses a range of tension. the aftermarket industry feels that the range is exceeded in certain situations. XB9 you should put a post up asking all who have installed spring loaded belt tensioners if they have had any broken belts. You can go on babbling about engineering proof but real world testing is the proof. Obviously it's a great design but the Buell engineers felt like they needed to make improvements to the design over the years because belts kept breaking. I agree the 1125 is the best design so far but it still keeps happening. We are all Buell fans and I wouldn't sell my XB unless I was going to buy an 1125. None of us on this board have the capability to do testing like Buell or any of the aftermarket companies. The only thing we are capable of is keyboard jousting!!! hopefully this board broadens everyones knowledge about the bikes they are so passionate about. peace |

Xb9? I know of him and in person. He has more experience in testing Buell motorcycles than many of us combined! Again...where is the proof concerning this motorcycle? |

(stirring the pot) All the people in the room that have had a chain roll off the sprocket and do damage to the motorcycle and or break, please raise your hand. Hmm, I see a few hands. I've had a couple of times too. Kawi should switch to a belt. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

My hands up. I have two Kawasaki swingarms in the garage as I speak, both of which have swingarm damage from a chain failure. Maybe if those chains had a tensioner, they would not have broken |

Your defensiveness is showing... Of course I am going to be defensive over something that I believe in. However, what really did make me angry was your assumption that 'the only good engineer is a factory one'. The product can speak for itself, and everyone that has one fitted to their XB needs no more proof of its effectiveness or the improvement it brings |
