Since my HJC is getting a bit worn, I plan on replacing it after the holidays. So, I went to a local dealer and tried on the Scorpion 700 and 1000 models. Seems to be a nice helmet for the money. They felt really good on the head, although I had to go up from a M to a XL. I found out they are sized really small. While I liked the flip down sun shade and air pump on the 1000, I'm not sure I'd spend the extra money for them. What I would really like to know is how well do these helmets vent air and how quiet are they? Hopefully, none of you can tell me how well they take a crash. Thanks! |

I have the 1000 and love it. I also have a Icon Mainframe and I like the 1000 better as far as fitment and noise are concerned but as you know, more vents = more noise. The flipdown sun shield is the best thing on a helmet that I have seen in a while. |

I have the 400. It fits more like an Arai in that it is a long oval. The 700 and 1000 are less so. Make sure that you try the 400. I wanted to get the 700 and 1000, but to make them fit, I had to move up in size and they were simply not fitted right. The 400 is drafty under the chin without the chin shield ($6.99) and it doesn't vent as well as my Arai. The 700 and 1000 vent better. My 400 is about the same noise level as my Arai. The shield seals much better than my Arai ever did. I would have like the pump up cheek pads, but I couldn't get a comfortable fit with the 1000 regardless of what I did. Keep in mind with the 1000 that there is a slight design flaw. The internal visor flips into the upper part of the helmet. this is also the entry point of the two brow vents. As a result, direct bug strikes will spray guts all over the retracted visor. Regardless of which one you go with, I feel the Scorpion line provides some of the best helmets for the money. |

Scorpion +1 on 400, 700, and 1000... I have one of each, daughter uses 400, wife my old 700, and of course I am rockin the 1000. Side note, not only bugs on the flip down, but heavy downpour will mist it with rain, simple fix is to just close the brow vent, the 1000 has more than enough ventilation... V/R, Nick |

I ended up with a 400. The 700 just didn't fit me at all. it felt like I was being scalped! The little 400's a nice helmet, fit is good BUT it is the noisest helmet I have ever worn. Almost all the noise comes from the top of the sides of the face shield so I'm looking at a bit of weather striping in there to stop the noise. I did a test with paper towel stuffed in there and it quieted right down. I too found I had to up-size but by 2 sizes to get a fit, large to XXL! But that's ok it's all a game as far as I see that they play. I just picked up a chin block at the dealer today to stop a little of the cold air in winter it was less than $9.00 but at the price point of the 400 ya gotta buy it extra! To put it in terms of the wallet My Shoei needed a face shield and all four vent had broken in less than a 6 months. It was cheaper to buy the 400 AND a dark shield than the parts for the Shoei. Add to the fact that no one here deals with Shoei make it an easy choice (Message edited by Birdy on October 25, 2008) |

I've had a couple 400s and 700s and love them. There is a HUGE difference in the noise level after adding the $10 chin dam. Been in one crash but as far as I can tell my head ( and the helmet) never touched the ground - but I replaced it anyway. I agree with the comments on the difference in fit for the 1000 - the flip-down shield is a great idea but I thought the optical clarity was poor so I decided not to buy it |

I have a EXO 1000 as well as an RF-1000...I dig the features on the Scorpion...and the looks, but the Shoei is hands down quieter, lighter, and more comfortable than the Scorpion for me. I have heard better things about the 700 and 400 though. |

I picked up a 700 about two months ago and so far I am thrilled. Price is extremely hard to bet, especially for the quality. I tried the 400 and 1000 and as noted above the 400 didn't fit my head right so it was out. The 1000 just didn't add anything that I wanted over the 700. The pump is neat but didn't improve the fit for me at all, the visor was too gadgety felling and the price of tinted visors is reasonable and oh yeah the sunglasses I already own, the visor didn't add anything for me. Noise- the best thing I learned when looking at a new helmet recently, and I looked at all brands, noise is individual and while yes there are differences between them all and the exo700 is night and day to the z1r I changed from, I still wear ear plug if I think I am going to go beyond 40mph. Someone wrote once is a product review online I read, "we quit evaluating noise in our product reviews because everyones hearing is different and we are sick of saying a helmet is quiet and then all the hate mail that follows about how it is not." I have excellent hearing and sensitive hearing and want to keep both awhile longer- EAR PLUGS For what it is worth, someone told me that Scorpion is a American Co. in CA and that their products also made in u.s.a.... i haven't verified that. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYYSfkvc75U awesome review and demo of all the features of the exo700 helmet from Sportbike Track Gear.... he does the 400 and 1000 also. My only regret- I should have gone with the bumbo bee color scheme.... safety wise... you will be seen... online I thought they looked horrible... in person... the strips rock... the red and white was probably my favorite... I have the Scorpion Deuce pants also, just as good... |

I have a 400 and it is my favorite helmet. I have a HJC CL-12 I think, and had a HJC CL-14. Here are the advantages of the Scorpion to me. HJC better for a round head. Not like mine, I have an oval head and the Scorpion fits me better. HJC is warmer. I have ridden with the HJC in temperatures below freezing. It is a bit better for that. Any temperatures warmer than that the air flow of the Scorpion is better. Scorpion anit-fog shield works and does not need the RainX treatment like all other shields inside or out. Scorpion liners are removable. If I were in the market for a helmet today, I would get a 1000. |

Thanks for the feedback guys. If I'm forced to work more overtime than I care to before turkey day, I'll be going back to try them ALL on and probably pick one up very soon. Sounds like I'll be pleased with a Scorpion, whatever model I choose. |

I have a 1000. Much quieter than my previous lid, a KBC Airborne edition. I wore an XL in the KBC and needed to go up to a XXL in the Scorpion. Their "paint schemes/designs" leave a little to be desired, but I can't see it when I'm wearing it ;P I had a little problem with the yellow inner cheek pad snap receivers pulling out of the styrofoam (I never removed the pads, they pulled out just from wearing it) Took it back to the dealer and they just exchanged it, no paperwork, no grief, just go grab another off the shelf. |

I've had a 700 for about 3 years now. Great helmet, though it's drafty as hell even with the chin liner. Without the chin liner, it has a tendency to suck things in underneath... twice I've had large insects splatted on the INSIDE of my visor (one was a wasp!). I'd say they vent incredibly well, given that there's simply no way to STOP the airflow. Very comfy though, impossible to fog, and never had any leaks in rainy weather. They are kinda' noisy, but I wear earplugs, so it's not so bad. I also had to bump up one size to get it to fit right. I'd like to try a 1000, but they seem a bit pricey compared to the 700 considering the only difference is a built in sun visor and a gimmicky air pad. ~SM |

I had a high-side crash at 90-100 mph at Barber on my M-2 in July 2005. My right shoulder was probably the first thing that hit the track. My head was next. I was wearing a Scorpion EXO-700 and wasn't knocked out. In fact, as I was tumbling, I kept wondering how long it was going to go on. I sent the helmet back to Scorpion with a write-up on the crash. I think they are great helmets.

I just bought the exo700 Rivet this summer upgrading from the Buell redline and love it. It has great ventilation that seals up fairly well, but I have to agree with Swordsman that the chin attachment is a must ($9 i think). For the $230 including tax it was well worth it. Your sunglasses will fog before the visor does which is sick. |

How funny, I just modded my exo400 tonight to block air leaking in around the chin that shot straight up to my right eye. I used a $0.15 scrub buddy and double stick tape. Haven't tested it yet, but will post back with results. Most of my helmets have this problem and it is in part because of my malformed, in-bred head(I'm southern, ya know). Anyhow, the exo400 fits me very comfortably, looks great with or without my head in it, and cleans up easier than some helmets. Bugs are still in the air here, I think they are fornicatin' faster than usual because they know we are in for a very cold winter. I'm going to have to check out that chin guard if my scrub buddy mod doesn't work out. Hmmm, I wonder if the sound level will go down with that sponge? |

I've had a couple of these (400s and 700s) and the only thing I really don't like is the shield stops. I've had other helmets where you could leave the shield open just a crack. On these helmets it's either tightly closed or open an inch or more. The no-fog shield coating works pretty well but sometimes after sitting in traffic you still need to open the shield just to get some air flow |

Midnight, That is my only gripe as well. The Arai had a sliver notch that would allow just a little air in. I wish the 400 did as well. I have considered Dremmeling a notch. |

Twig, My 700 flows more air than anything I've ever owned. Its down right cold in 40 degree weather. I just ordered the chin vent from new enough (all of 7.00). I also had to move up from a medium (Arai) to a large. The fit is damn close, but not exact. I ordered the optional 30mm cheek pads (stock is 25mm) I think that will make the fit closer to the Arai (which was the best fitting helmet I've tried) Quality is very good and the shield doesn't fog. Not even at 30 degrees |

EXO-400 Safety - SNELL, DOT and 4 stars on the new euro system. Fit - excellent but runs small so you need one size larger compared to most other brands. Visor - it really doesn't fog, but it does need more positions Noise - it is not any quieter than the inexpensive AGV GP-1 it replaces. Venting - the test to me is not whether is feels cold when it is 40 out, it is whether you can tell the difference between when they are open and when they are closed in hot and cold weather. Hot weather - cannot tell the difference. Cold weather - might be a touch warmer with them closed. Ease of use - 3 vents are easy except it is hard to remember which way is open and since you cannot tell the difference you need to open them before putting it on, 2 vents cannot be done with gloves on while riding but you can tell by their position if they are open. Breath guard - I refuse to toss mine (most do), but it does not stay put. Chin Strap - not firm enough, mine twists to easily and is difficult to attach quickly (like when we just got called to the starting line at the dragstrip and you have 30 guys behind you waiting to go). Lining - comfortable, but it gives me the worst helmet head ever. I have short hair and it makes it look like cornrows or like Klingon skull ridges. Conclusion - I like my 400 well enough for the $100 I paid for it, but will probably try something different and more expensive next time. I would like better venting with easier to use vents, more visor positions and a chin strap that doesn't bunch so easily. I like solid colors so something with a more unique shape like a Shark or Roof helmet would be cool. Less helmet head would be good, but maybe I just need to wear a doo rag under my helmet? So it is a great helmet for the money, but not the end all - be all helmet (at least not for me). (Message edited by scott_in_nh on October 31, 2008) |

Becksbuell got a brand new 400 yesterday for her BD, cause she has such a wonderful husband. First ride today with it, she came in bragging and happy about it. She likes it better than her HJC. They were out of the chin thing, sounds like I need to go ahead and order one. It's so nice to manage to do SOMETHING right every now and then. Her happiness is paramount to me, especially considering her advancing age. |

U4, thanks for the offer, wish I could ride down tomorrow since the weather will be nice. But, Pat wants to start painting what used to be the living room and turn my den back into a dining room. Lots to do before Thanksgiving, but what the hell, she deserves it. She's had a rough year. |
