My son and I had a chance to compare an 09 XB12Ss and an XB12Scg side by side at the dealership today. This was the first Scg I've seen and I LOVED it. The Scg fit perfect. It didn't seem any taller than my current Blast. While straddling the SS I can stand flat foot, but just barely. After a thousand miles or so, will the suspension relax at all on these bikes? I think another 1/2 an inch would make all the difference on the SS. I'm drawn to the SS because of the longer wheel base. Also for two up, I think it would be much better than the Scg. I suspect the SS would have a smother ride, again because of the longer wheel base. But the Scg fit like a glove. But the SS might be more practical. So, here is the question: Who has ridden both and does the longer wheel base make that much difference. Is it really better for two up riding? Anything else I should consider between the two? And yes, I uderstand there is no bad choice here...lol |

I have owned 3 Buells and the suspension does relax a little over time. |

The SS holds more fuel and the longer travel suspension seems to help handling. |

I'm thinking that since I ride two up a lot the longer frame and seat might make more sense. Holding more fuel would be a plus too. |

Look for a 2006-2008 XB12SS, they have the shorter suspension. The 09 SS has the old STT suspension. Or, get an 09 and hook up with someone with a 06 SS *cough* and swap suspensions *cough* me! |

I have the scg and love it. But I will say it will bottom out on high speed bumps and the such if you aren't careful. Only the very high speed bumps. I don't ride 2 up, but it doesn't look like there's much room back there on mine. I just liked that I could put both feet flat on the ground with the scg being a new rider and all. I was torn between the 2, but the ss was black and the scg was cherry bomb red. What can I say I liked the red. Plus it was the first Buell I fell in love with. |

Gee Froggy? Where ever would I find some one with an 06 SS that would ever be willing to sway out??? 2008xb12scg - Yeah. Sitting on the show room floor I fell in love with it too. It's an easy thing to do. |

Zane- if you can flat foot the Ss, even barely, why would you need the Scg? I was able to flat foot my first road bike (1983 Honda Ascot VT500FT) which I still have, but after I got some miles under my belt I moved up to an S3 (~+1.5 inches taller) and finally a 2007 Uly (~3 inches taller). I remember thinking the Honda was about my height limit when I first got it. Now I sit on it and feel like a grown up on a mini-bike. As you get more riding experience, you'll get more comfortable with the height. If you can flat-foot it now, even barely, I wouldn't look for anything lower. |

Gee Froggy? Where ever would I find some one with an 06 SS that would ever be willing to sway out? The only problem in doing so, is you would swap a black fork for a silver one |

I have an 09' Ss and my wife has an 08' Scg. Her bike looks like a mini-me of my Ss! It is much shorter and handles very differently. Her's is a little low for my riding style, I scape her pegs very easily and I've never scraped mine (scraped my toe, but not the pegs). I'm about 185lbs and I bottom out her bike pretty quick on fast sweepers as someone else said. I know a lot of guys have Scg's, but I don't think it's the bike for taller and heavier riders. |

I'm 5 foot 10 and about 190. And I just barely flat footed the SS in the sneakers I was wearing. I drop my 14 year old son off at school on my way to work. He is 5 foot 9 and 140. Can the preload on the SS be set to let the bike down about 1/2 an inch. That would just about be perfect. |

Flat footing motorcycles is HIGHLY overrated, especially on a bike that weighs next to nothing like a Buell. Your feet are on the ground about 2% of the time, and on the pegs 98% of the time. Why buy a motorcycle based on being comfortable only 2% of the time??? Test ride the bike! You won't learn anything useful just sitting on the thing in the showroom floor. |

I'd love to test ride both the Ss and the Scg. One of the two will be my next bike. But I don't want to waste the sales guy's time since I can't do anything until the first of the year and if I relocate, some time after that. When it's closer to the time where I can buy, I'll ride them both. (as far and as long as I can get away with) |

Greetings from Tulsa,Ok. I have owned a XB12Scg for over a year now,and I really like the bike. Here is my opinion on your topic. The Scg is by far the meanest looking bike if you like the Short and wide look. The stance it has is really cool.It is really too short for me though.I am 5'11 and very skinny(145lbs) so the bike is very manageable to me.It can become uncomfortable on longer rides.Of course I know the Buell line of bikes are not really touring machines at all.My wife is lighter than me but to me it is way too unstable riding two up. I really think the longer version would suit you better.I am sure they handle a little better as well.If you and the better half plan on riding two up a lot I would not even consider a naked a sport bike. Remember this is only my opinion. Best regards. |

i've always liked the look of the Scg over the SS. It just plain looks better to me. More compact, better overall look. That said, I have a TT. I was intimidated by the height at first, but now i love it! I have a view like I'm sitting in an SUV, which is really nice in traffic. The extra suspension travel is nice to have as well, which the 09's have now. For 2 up riding, the long isn't so great. How much 2-up will you really do? My wife and I did 5 hours to the beach one time, with a corbin seat on my TT. It was fine for me, but not so much for her. There's just not enough room/seat width back there. For shorter trips, I'd say it's tolerable for a passenger, but not an enjoyable experience. With the corbin seat, seat height was a bit lower than the TT solo seat. I noticed it too and felt more cramped up at the knees. The best advice would be to go sit on both styles and see what you like and test ride them, though some dealers are funny about that..... |
