Hi guys, I'm sure this is an idiot question, but I'll ask anyhow: Will a S2 seat fit on a '97 M2? With what mods? I'm looking to upgrade my seat on the cheap. The shape of my stock Cyclone is fine, but it's VERY soft and my butt goes numb on it after about 120 miles. I'm thinking of buying a used S2 seat to have Sargent rework... Any thoughts? Randy | ||

The S2 has different bodywork than an M2 and the frames are different, so that might be a big (expensive) job to make them compatible. But I've heard that Saddlemen made the comfy seats for the '99 and later tube frame Buells which were a vast improvement over the previous years seats. I know; I've got a '98 S3 which has a fairly firm cushion compared to a plush '99 seat which I've borrowed. Saddlemen offers high-tech seat foam & cover kits, gel pads and replacement seat covers from which you could choose to upgrade your M2 seat. I had them replace the stock seat cover with a custom widened bucket and foam/gel insert on a '96 S1, a bike that's seat was notorious as a torture device after 30 minutes seat time. This transformed the bike into a relatively comfy all-day tourer:  | ||

Hey Sparky, I might try Saddlemen. Their Web site didn't have a lot of information, but I don't have a lot of money right now, either. I'll probably wait until I do and then give Sargent and them a talk to see who will give me a better quote on the work. In the meanwhile, I'll keep my eye out for a beat M2 seat. See, I thought I’d read that the M2 and S2 used the same frames. I have a '97 M2 Cyclone and picked up a used seat through BWB. I wanted to keep the original. I also have a Corbin but I want one that's flatter (I'm 6'1" and want to stretch a bit). I bought a foam block and cut out the pattern and will send to Sargent or Saddlemen myself to cover. I'll let you know how I make out. |
