Looks like Buell is going to do something about the clutch cable wireform retainer. No other info has been released as of yet, but once updated, I'll post the info here.

The only info I have is the listing of bikes that are affected, and it appears to be only 2008 MY bikes, but I'll post the actual bulletin once it is released.

Anyone care to elaborate? Please explain as if others don't already know what this is all about. My wife has an 08' Scg. I'd like to know if this affects her bike. THX.

I had this done a few months ago under warranty.

There's a wire bracket that holds your clutch cable under the steering head.
Over time, motor vibration will break the wireform bracket, causing the clutch cable to come in contact with the front header.
The new bracket is much more beefy and won't vibrate itself to pieces.

If the bracket on your wife's bike looks like a curly piece of coat hanger, then her bike has the older syle and will be replaced under warranty.

Look on the front of your engine, you will see the clutch cable coming down from the handle bar. There is a clip that holds the clutch cable, keeping it away from the header. The 2003- April 2008 bikes have what looks like a bent paper clip for the holder, while the newer bikes have a clip that resembles a black mini crowbar

Old clip:

New style clip:

quote:

The spring wire that holds the Buell XB12X Ulysses' clutch cable away from the header pipe has been upgraded from wire to a sturdier piece of steel with loops at each end to grasp the cable.

The old part number was N0012.1AA. The new improved part number is N00.1AAA. This new revision part appears very substantial and should resolve the problem of broken clutch cable clips.

My 08 XB12X wireform lasted 2000 miles. New version available at local dealer but since the cable is lightly roasted I am awaiting the back-ordered cable. Cable tie repair should last until then.

Ha, made me look.

On the '03 9R it's a completely different set-up. Reminds me of the old rule, "if it works, don't fix it".

Oh, well.

2008xb12scg, the part has been available, "N00.1AAA". If you really want to, go and get it, it was something like $12. It is shown in the second picture i posted above, if yours has the new bracket, you got nothing to worry about. If you got the old style one, I would wait till you here more, as it looks like Buell is picking up the tab on it. : )

Froggy-after I posted that I went and looked. Mine is broke and I found the damn rattle I've been looking for. I will go by the dealer today and have them order it for me. They should pay since it's broke.

2008xb12scg, check the clutch cable too, its possible its melted. Obviously its all covered under warranty, and you will be getting the new style clip. If they give you another old clip because they might have one on the shelf, just take it for now. Odds are they won't have the cable or clip in stock, so you might need to leave the bike.

Mine broke with under 1000 miles. Took it in and they replaced it and the clutch cable with the same thing. Broke again before I even got it home from the dealer. Waiting until the upgraded part came out and took it in again. They put the upgraded part and a new clutch cable on.

Warranty item.... take it in and get it fixed.
