'06 XB9SX I changed my front pads today. Everything came off fine and went back together fine, with multiple exceptions (of course). 1. The pad retaining bolt head stripped when I was putting it back in. I am figuring that is not much of a problem, right now, seeing as the bolt is all the way in. How do I get it out now? 2. I have no front brakes at all now. Lever goes all the way to the grip. I bled the brakes multiple times and still get no action from them. I rode around the block a few times and get nothing. 3. When I was going to bleed it once again; one of the screws on the master cylinder cover stripped and now I can't get it out. 4. I forgot to put the heat shims back in, but cannot take the pads back out do to problem #1 stated above. Will it cause a problem to ride without them when I get all these problems fixed? Before I screw up anything else; can someone PLEASE help me? | ||

Arrgh. I've had days like that. I keep one of those cheap "hammer" impact screwdriver things around. I think I got mine at autozone. You hit it, and it rotates 1/8 turn or so. So it bites and turns at the same time. That might help. I have also used a dremel tool with a cutting wheel to make a new screwdriver slot, and use that. It is *really* easy to accidentally groove "other things" that way though. Also, though I despise easy outs as a general rule, they may have a place for stuck screws like these. Those craftsman "screw remover" thingys have a good reputation as well (kind of like a drill bit and easy out all in one). Heat and penetrating oil helps also. Sorry its been "one of those days"... | ||

When you install the new pads, you had to compress the pistons all the way, yes. You gotta pump the heck out of the brake lever to get the pads to contact the disk. Pump, pump, pump, and then pump some more. |
