I see on a thread from last year ("Cleaning the Blast") that the foamy engine brite has been used with success, presumably on the brite metal parts. But does anyone have any experience with a cleaner that really cleans up -- and dresses up -- the textured black engine parts? I've tried mineral spirits and spray on engine cleaners. I can clean it but I'd like to restore the black. So far, nothing easily takes out old gas stains and imparts a nice even renewed black look, sort of like tire black does to tires. What kind of coating is the black, anyway? Is it a powder coating, high-temp paint? Any advice is, of course, appreciated! (Message edited by bitbear on July 24, 2006) |

WD40 - ok - heres the secret - start with a rag - clean and heavy on the Break parts cleaner - wipe down - till uniformally dull - lol - then apply WD40 with a clean rag, then clean rag off any excess - makes it look just like new. GT - JBOTDS! EZ (Message edited by ezblast on July 24, 2006) |

Dang, Ez -- you know EVERYTHING! Thanks, will do. Break cleaner is something I can get at the local auto parts store, I suppose? |

Be careful with the brake parts cleaner (available at any auto parts store-areosol spray). I'm surprised it doesnt make the engine paint go soft. I'm sure EZ has tried it, but it can damage paint, so be careful where you spray it. How does that WD40 smell burning off? (I hate the smell of WD40). |

Simple Green makes an engine cleaner that works on a cold engine. Wet the engine, spray the stuff on, wait 15 minutes, hose off. Just be sure to use the engine degreaser not regular simple green. (Plugging a company that has contributed to my racing effort) |

Pig spit. Its a little pricey but works great on the black sections. |

Pig spit or Pig snot? And does it make the engine paint black like WD40? |

Jug, is it anything like snake spit? I've got some of that, and when applied to a linoleum floor it's really slick! |

I spray the Brake cleaner on the rag - instantly takes off any dirt, the WD40 burns off asap, if excess wiped off, leaving a great looking engine. Tried other stuff - results just not as good. GT - JBOTDS! EZ} |

A guy I work with had a can of pig spit, got it from the harley shop, sprayed it on the black engine parts and they looked bran new. I rarely wash my bike and it is stored outside during the riding months. If I was worried about it looking clean that is what I would use. |

I use tire and rim cleaner from the ¢99 store. Then replenish the black with the tire bright from same place. It seemed to work good. Spray on wipe off. |

I use Aluminum Mag and Chrome rim cleaner. It removes break dust and break fluid, and can also be used as an engine cleaner. I forger what it's called, but it comes in a purple bottle and I get it at AdvancedAuto. It's 9 bucks a bottle, and it cleans the engine block really well. The black ends up looking brand new too, but if it isn't shiny enough then use Mother's brand Back to Black spray on formula, don't wipe it off, just let it sit on it. That should last a good solid week, if you don't ride too hard or let it sit in the rain. I'll get the name of the rim cleaner for you, I'm gunna be cleaning my bike today, so it'll be no problem for me to get the name of it for you. |

To spruce up the black crinkle finish bits on your Blast (or CityX) try some S-100 Engine Brightener. Works great, lasts a long time and doesn't attract dust and dirt. |
