Is 89 octane going to do any harm? I've run it several times and can't tell the difference between it and 91 octane. In my 06 Sporty I ran 89 all the time with no problems at all in 19K miles. Thanks for the feedback. |

I run 89 with 10% ethanol and have never had a ping. Although wth the small fuel capacity I do notice the difference in mileage running it compared to 92. |

Just finished 5500 miles across the West and Northwest on my '08 Uly. I ran 85 and 87 octane the entire way. Mileage from 40 - 55 mpg (higher at higher elevations in Colorado). Only noticed pinging when I was down to sea level (I'm at 6500 feet usually) and found myself gleefully running open throttle for that extra 20%. When I heard pinging, I just backed off. Just my experience. (Message edited by desert_bird on October 12, 2008) (Message edited by desert_bird on October 12, 2008) |

Thanks. As far as difference in mileage, I just got 34.1 on 91 octane yet my highest mileage ever, 48, was on 89 octane so paying more and not getting any benefit in return isn't worthwhile. All I wanted to be sure of was that no damage was going to occur. That said, it doesn't appear to me that there anything gained by running premium. I think on my next fill I'll go back to mid-grade. Thanks for the feedback guys. Much appreciated. |

I was forced to run 87 a few times at Buelltoberfest, I didn't have any issue on my 06 SS. Last year I tried it once on my 06 X and it pinged like a mofo. I believe my SS is more retarded, yes in more ways that one :P As for gas mileage, I couldn't really compare it, because there were too many variables changing on a day to day basis. At one point I was getting high 30's, another point low 70s. |
