F-B don't be a stranger lest we Badwebbers miss out on the wisdom and humor of the Ninja Master.

Now, having said that, sell your computer before the bike.

Oh good gawd. Just get a F%^&#*$ job for a while. When things recover go back to your hammock and umbrella job!

Does that hurt, just a little?

You didn't mention selling off family members and pets(not prostitution or slavery(I know you care for them)just outright sell them for a price). How about stealing shit and selling it on E-Bay like the real "crack heads" do. After all, it has been you that has called the Uly the "crack cocaine" of motorcycles.

Seriously I have been there for over a year now and have liquidated some assets for survival. It sucks the big one. But selling the Uly?

I got one kid still at home and several pets. Oh, and then there is the wife. I'm afraid she won't bring much on the open market though(a serious devaluation based on receiving the AARP card).

Wow, I wish everyone had the same attitude as Ft_bstrd

"It's only fun to help others when there is no expectation of reciprocation."

Keep the bike. Sell the wife and kids!

Gotta get your priorities straight!

Sorry to hear you are on hard times. I've been there a time or two while between jobs, and had to make some sacrifices. You gotta do what you gotta do, but it all works out in the end.

Can't keep a good man down.

Mr. Bastard,

Keep the bike. Sell your body. It's the oldest profession and certainly worth keeping the bike!

Seriously though, yours was a really sad post. One of my best friends hit rock bottom and is scraping by, selling his most prized possessions, and wincing when he had to pawn the 1982 Gibson SG that his now-deceased mom bought him...something he swore he'd never give up. Hopefully, the Uly is just a tool you can replace and is not something that holds serious emotional or symbolic value. Mr. Buell makes better and better bikes as the years go by.

My friend wanted to sell me his Gibson for a song, just so he could come back for it when he was flush again. I just don't have the room to do that, and it broke my heart. Hope you're not NEARLY in those kinds of straits! Keep riding, and keep posting, man!

Jeremy, it was a pleasure meeting you in Suches and am sorry to hear of your situation. Your humor and insight on this board have always been appreciated. I have had friends in this situation before and they have always come back stronger than before. Good luck in your ventures.

Don't sell the bike. It's a Buell; they have a low resale value. It's also Autumn, and not many people buy bikes in the fall. Use the bike to clear your head when economic conditions start to get to you. It's not worth much as a material object, but as a psychological aid, it's priceless.

AW FB - There will be a huge void in Uly world if you exit the scene. You are on the defacto board of directors of Buelldom. Can appreciate the current economic climate and it's consequential toll on so many people. My wife won't let me look at my IRA statement anymore - she said "why look at that thing ? it's just going to depress you" Good council. I'm retired, but went back to work for awhile to reduce the cash hemmorage. We discussed reducing our bike inventory - decided that riding was the one thing we could still afford to do. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do - but I came to the rational decision that in this market I would merely take another loss... on the bike. Just like other investments, selling now just locks in the losses... and I can at least ride the Uly...can't ride a mutual fund. Peace brother.

Its just "stuff". Do what you gotta do to take care of yourself and the family.

You can always get more "stuff".

Hopefully you can make a quick recovery and buy another Uly while the market is down. After the election things have traditionally settled down...this time, I duuno.

Best of luck to you.

but as a psychological aid, it's priceless

That is what has been carrying myself and a couple of my friends through this "thing".

But there can come a point.......

It's NOT just "stuff". It's his bike!
The difference, in my opinion is in the value of the bike for it's ability to clear my mind while riding, cheap transportation, the magic of meeting new folks - just because I'm on the bike. There are many more "valuable points" to be made for the bike and it's resale value will be forgotten soon after it is gone.

I went through the same thing about a year and a half ago. It was when I found out that my mortgage was not on a fixed rate and the payment shot up out of site. I panicked and put everything up for sale.
I got through it by loosing the panic and making a plan. I worked out the mortgage with the bank. I got a second job and I got ahead again.
You can too!
Think about it and make a plan.
Remember- don't panic. And bring a towel.
I wish you good luck, sir.
Dan.

Ft_bstrd, I only have one thing to say to you

HTFU!!!!!!!!

Seriously, we have the same financial sh*t going down this side of the Pond too. If you have to sell the Uly, you have to sell it, you'll get another when you can. Look after yourself and your family and keep in touch with us on here!!!

I hope things work out for you and any other BadWeatherBikers who are taking serious hits with this World Wide financial f*ck up!!!

Panhead Dan -It's NOT just "stuff". It's his bike!

I know. Its important to me too, BUT compared to his and families well being it is just stuff. It wears out, it costs money to maintain and own, AND it CAN be replaced later.

Buell should lend FB a demo for a few years to recompense his valiant support of the bike. My own purchase was directly influenced by his posts and I have greatly appreciated his good natured humorous approach to all things Uly.

Maybe you could install Fatty Voltage Monitor mods for extra cash.

I think that's a great idea since I got mine in trade for a tire change.

Somehow Fatty Voltage Monitor installations appear more economically promising than Chippendales.

FB .. Sure hope you don't have to sell the bike. As stated above, if you do have to, sell all the extras separately.

I don't know if you have any other bikes but you have an obvious passion for riding. As someone who just got back to riding this year after 10 years of not riding. I didn't realize how important riding is to me or how much I missed it. For me riding is a form of relaxation and meditation all in one.

FB, hang on to the Uly. You won't get much for it anyway, and a motorcycle is about the cheapest transportation around.

Anyone want to buy my '99 Suzuki Katana 600? It doesn't start and needs a new rear tire soon. And it's black...

Damn. I hate this economy.

But I love this Buell community - just got another Buell t-shirt at Old Glory H-D/Buell in Laurel, MD today. Clothes are important, especially as winter approaches. Short aside - I finally saw the 1125CR there...

I wasn't into it.

It's CLOSE, but I think it NEEDS the wide headlight fairing that the 1125R has to give the front end the right amount of balance...maybe if they redesigned the big side scoops...

But I digress...

No matter what Monsieur/Herr/Signor Bastard decides, he's welcome on this site, and even more welcome when he picks up the newest model. MY profile envisions buying a 2011 1125R, a 2012 XB12X, and a 2014 Victory Vision of all things (when it's powered by nuke-ular fusion).

Ft_bstrd is already one step ahead...he can start to think of WHAT'S NEXT.

In the meantime, keep saving that gas.

And buy my Suzuki!
