I'm rotating the engine for better access to the rear spark plug hole, and I don't seem to get the engine to rotate any farther than this:
If anything, access is even worse in this position. I've removed and disconnected everything covered in the manual (I think), and it stops about here. Surely it goes farther!? Thanks to any experienced "rotaters" out there. |

Dr_greg, Silly question, but is it your jack preventing it from going down farther or is the engine physically hitting something else on the bike? |

Check your electrical wires that attach to the inside of the frame, near the fan. Gotta remove the links too. |

Looks like maybe the rear screw on the V bracket is still connected? Also did you remove the clutch cable from above? Hard to tell from the photo. --- 08Uly Uly Data Page Blast Data Page

No, jack is not interfering. No wire problems. Clutch cable is free. I only removed the engine mounting hardware as instructed in the manual. If it were wires/cable it would be obvious (the weight of the engine would just snap wires). Must be a link or something. I'll double-check. I'm sure it rotates farther...I probably forgot something (wouldn't be the first time). |

Here's my 2008 almost fully rotated (there is a pinch point at rear muffler mount bolt & oil line clamp on swing arm). --- 08Uly Uly Data Page Blast Data Page

I had forgotten third bolt on V-bracket. Now it goes much farther. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. |

Dr_greg, did you remove the drive belt, and is the rear wheel in the air? When I was reading through the procedures last week I noticed my OFSM neglected to instruct to remove the belt, but later instructs to reinstall it... jus guessin. |

Here's my 2008 almost fully rotated (there is a pinch point at rear muffler mount bolt & oil line clamp on swing arm). Do you suppose you could post the pic again? The resolution is very poor and it only displays halfway. The reason being that my rear plug threads are toast and I have to remove the head for repair. I'd like to make sure I have engine rotated fully to help with access. |

Xbimmer, my belt is slack; don't think belt removal is necessary, although idler pulley is (although I just slipped the belt off to get it out of the way). |
