So following the theory and proof that the XB9 works better with the XB12 airbox has anyone attempted to use the xb12 header pipes on an XB9 engine and if so were the results good bad or no real difference ? Just thought with the larger diameter pipes it might help get rid of gases easier. Anyone done it yet ????} |

size ain't everything haven't you heard actually on the 9's the bigger header is a detriment. velocity slows down. arron or blake can chime in with an equation to explain it better. but think on this.... harley davidson bean counters ....if they could make one header to work for both bikes they would. |

Thought that Buck just wanted confirmation I have toyed with the idea of making a two into two exhaust system using two seperate header pipes going into two seperate inlets with two seperate outlets in a basically standard shaped (although shorter) type silencer that would be partitioned down its length in the centre. With this I was hoping to achieve two seperate exhausts both of roughly 40" length and with original diameter header pipes in the same kind of space that the standard system occupies. Having read some of your posts you seem to know what you are talking about and have backed up theorys with truelife tests, Do you think this would be of any benefit or would it be a waste of time ???? |

depends on what you are trying to achieve. A 2 into 2 pipe will never be as good an all around pipe as a 2 into one. @ into 2 are good for high rom work mostly. usually lose down low. plus with the offset firing order that we have in our engines I don't believe equal length headers are the way to go. there could be a million different arguments on this. so this is only my opion. don't butter me up with that stuff that I know what I am talking about. sometimes I don't. but if I don't I will admit it. but what you are asking really depends on application... hey your right come to think of it...I do know what I am talking about....ouch I just pulled a muscle patting myself on the back |

LMAO Thinking more for high revs use actually. I want to liberate the 9 engine and make use of the advantage of the short stroke over square motors capabilities. Killed 3 engines in the s1w and never quite got round to making it work how I wanted it to. As soon as I rode the 9 I decided it was every bit as good as the S1w and had more potential for going further with. Used to ride the s1w regularly 2 up and always round the 100/110 mark while playing, Obviously faster if I was being serious. Thats why I got a two year drive/ride ban but that gives me two years to develop a minibeast |

Buckinfubba, is it me or does this conversation sound familiar? Squiz13, drag pipes are called drag pipes for a reason. What you'd loose down low would be down low, all of it pretty much. Look in the KV, there is a wealth of information there from people in the exhaust business if you don't want to listen to us. Brian (Buckinfubba) knows what he's talking about though.

errr, Glitch. I was taking on board what Buck wrote thats what I posted the reply for to discuss further the theory and hopefully get some idea of where/how much power it would lose. Sorry if you misunderstood what I wrote but I thought it was self explanatory. As long as the thing will pull off and rev smoothly I dont really care about losing bottom end. Its very rare I ride round below 60 in top gear ! |

I got what you were saying. It's just that open pipes aren't good for a streetbike. If all you were doing was drag racing, LSR, or the like it would be a good choice. But, on the street, you can't go WFO all the time... or I can't anyway. |

Who said anything about OPEN pipes ? Read the thread again, Particularly the description of the silencer unit. Quote (two seperate inlets with two seperate outlets in a basically standard shaped (although shorter) type SILENCER that would be partitioned down its length in the centre.) So the question still stands. Along with one other observation/statement- I have ridden built and played with Harleys/Buells of all types for the last 10 odd years trying to squeeze as much out of them as I could Without losing drivability or sacrificing handleing for looks. I asked this question of a man whos opinion I respect as someone who did the base line tests before he just stuck something together and HAD to say it worked. If we all just decided we KNEW the fu**in answer without sharing ideas we would still be riding round in horse and carts. So dont patronise me with crap like "is it me or does this conversation sound familiar?" Cos I havent found any mention on this board of a two into two SILENCED system tuned to the motors capabilities. If you know where THAT thread is please provide me with a link to it !!!! One last thing glitch How many harleys and buells have you owned and worked on yourself?

Whoa, it's really late in England. Get some sleep mate. By the way, that's one bad motor scooter ya got there. Don't let a guy named Rocket Peeter get near it. |

Its early for me yet, Thats the problem with insomnia Would that be OUR rocket you are talking about (uk one) ? Did chat with him once on this very board but we never did get to meet. Oh by the way. That was my LAST Buell. It destroyed its engine for the third and final time at the end of last year and as a consequence was broken up for spares . Thats why Im picking other peoples brains about what does and doesnt work for my latest project the XB9s |

Squiz, Checked your profile. That is one bad ass Buell. I was wondering how you got a 99up header on your S1, but then I kept reading. Looks like you've done some serious work there. Was the CF Ducati fender cheaper than the Buell one, or did you just happen across it? Again, nice work. I'm jealous. Jeff |

Damn, didn't mean to upset ya there! The conversation I was talking about was one Buckinfubba and I had on the phone the night before this thread started. And yes you're right, I did miss the part about the silencers. Meant no offence to ya guy. And one last thing. The only Harley I've worked on is the '68 Sportster I bought in several buckets of parts, a frame, and some wheels. Put it together in my basement. This is my first Buell. |

Sorry for going off the deep end apologies Glitch Hootowl the Ducati fender was used because the forks are 46mm ohlinns that were made for the 1997 world superbike Ducati series only ( not for retail sale ) Happened to be in the right place at the right time where they were concerned, They originally had gold anodizing but I had em redone in black |
