Hey Guys, just a quick question...I have a 03 XB9S with Pro-series air filter and D&D pipe, my buddy has a 03 XB9S low fitted with the Buell race kit. In the 3000 to 6000 rpm range,I totally pull away from him, but then he catches and passes me like I was sitting still around 130mph. Does the race ecm make that much of a difference and what else can I do (beside the race ecm) to hop-up my bike to beat his? Hope someone can help me out! Thanx alot! |

possibly your buddy has a higher balls to weight ratio? |

another interesting posibility is that the LOW has a tad less wind drag, and thus a higher top speed? |

You can improve the performance of your XB9 by adding a race ECM and by drilling a bunch of holes in your airbox lid, or by swapping it out for an XB12 airbox lid. The D&D does have great midrange as you have found, but it will fall off at the top compared to the race kit muffler. The Drummer muffler by the folks at Tilley's HD/Buell, one of our sponsors, reportedly gives you the best of both worlds... improved midrange and peak HP. I assume that at 130 mph, you are racing your friend on a closed course/racetrack. If not, you might want to check into your states laws on drag racing on pubic roads. In Texas you can lose you bike/car. Be careful out there. ALL the guys dead from motorcycle accidents thought it would never happen to them. Also, I fail to see how your friend could pass you at 130 mph like you were standing still when the rev limited top speed of the XB9 is just over 130 mph. And as already mentioned, aerodynamic drag is the enemy of top speed. All else being equal, tight leather will beat loose anything every day. If you really need a bike with a higher peak speed, go buy yourself a Jap repliracer IL4 machine. Even the 600's will do 150 mph. Better idea would be to take up actual land speed racing or Battle Trax type racing and forgo the risky peak speed contests on public roads. |

I weigh about 210, my buddy is 200lbs. Also I forgot to mention that he gets way better gas mileage than me. My fuel light comes on before his when we both fill up at the same time. he can go about 40 to 45 miles more before his light illuminates. |

my fuel light is funny too. it leaves a 1.1 gallon reserve.dont know if that is adjustable. BTW what is your hiway milage? i get 50 mpg on xb12, but bike is very new yet. and like blake sez, dont get yourself killed. |

Honestly I don't know my actual Kighway milage. I never figured it out. All I know is that I usually get 102 miles on the tripometer before the fuel light comes on, but usually go another 22 miles or so before I fuel up again and the bike only takes about 2.6 gallons. |

Thanx guys for your concern. I am not one of those speed freaks all the time. It was just one time my buddy and me hit this road that was like 45 miles straight line riding and we did a roll-on. I guess I exaggerated when I said at 130 he passes me like I was sitting still. I just can't catch him with my bike and it makes me angry. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the XB. I will NEVER ride a Jap bike again!!! Had one-GSXR 600 I'll take my Buell over that anyday! |

I have the 9s with the race kit and the top end punch is much better than when I had the stock stuff on. Gas milage is great too (55 plus or minus 3). Go figure.

I really think the race ecm makes all the difference between mine and his. I guess I'm just goin to have to buy the ecm. Speaking of that.... how do the power commanders work with the XB? Are they using ones for a X1?

I heard rumors that the Power Commanders would not be supported for the Buell any longer, I could be wrong. |

The PCIII is no longer being offered for the Buells. They're still out there, but they are no longer being made. The one for the tuber will work on an XB, as it is simply an injector pulse width modifier and takes no input from any sensors except the TPS and the O2. The injector connectors are the same, which is really the only thing that differentiates it from any other model (PW types), that is if all fuel injector connectors aren't the same, I really don't know. |
