I came back from my NC trip with new bike fever last year, and it seems I caught another case again this year. Finances keep the fever from being cured last year, and with the economy even worse this year I fear I may just have to suffer through it again. Please, everyone tell me I would be crazy to sell my FXDX and buy a bike like the 1125r. Tell me I am too old and besides I have never owned a sport bike before so a bike like an 1125r would be wasted on me. Tell me I wouldn't be comfortable on it for 300 mile days. Tell me my wife wouldn't be comfortable on the back of it so she would never ride with me. Tell me anything to make me feel better. Then there is the Firebolt. Tell me the gas capacity is too small for long rides. Tell me it is too crude compared to the 1125r and I would just wish I had bought an 1125r in the first place. Then there is the Lightening Long. Tell me the wind protection is terrible. That I will long for the days on my FXDX with the windshield. Tell me it is too much of a compromise bike. Finally there is the XT. Tell me it is not different enough from my FXDX. Tell me I'll wish I had bought something sportier when I could have afforded to keep the FXDX and buy a second bike. Tell me they are all hot here in Florida. Tell me the dealers are terrible. Tell me in these economic times that buying a new bike is frivolous. Tell me that in time the fever will pass. I keep telling myself all these things, but I still feel sick. |

You would be absolutely crazy to buy an 1125r...and rumor has it that some crazy dealers are selling 'em for less than Firebolt MSRP. |

You're still freaking YOUNG! Don't wait til you retire to do what you want. You are almost the PERFECT age to do stuff that doesn't make any sense to anybody else but you... ...and don't feel you CAN'T do it NOW. Don't ask me how I know.

You know what you want to do. Why are you stopping yourself? The FX is a good bike, but it doesn't go around corners, stop or feel nearly as good as my XT does to me. I think you should try a Demo ride or two on whatever bikes you're interested in, then see how you feel. A Demo ride saved me from buying a bike that I would have hated, once. Another Demo ride hooked me on Buells. Always ride first, then decide. Oh; at 45, you're not old. |

Go buy an 1125r. You're not too old, but you never know when you might be too dead. Carpe Diem my friend! |

Buy a good clean low mileage tuber and cure the sickness. (Message edited by Jramsey on October 07, 2008) |

there is the XT. ... Tell me I'll wish I had bought something sportier Uly's suck as sportbikes. there is the Firebolt. ... Tell me it is too crude compared to the 1125r The Firebolt isn't a real sportbike, it's underpowered. there is the Lightening Long. ... Tell me it is too much of a compromise bike. Yes, the S models suck. Not really a cruiser, not really a sport bike. Please, everyone tell me I would be crazy to sell my FXDX and buy a bike like the 1125r. You don't want an 1125r, it has pods. I keep telling myself all these things, but I still feel sick. I hope I've helped. |

I traded my Road King for my Uly in 06.... 2 years and 32,000 miles later... I still don't miss the Road King.... I liked the Uly so much I went back and bought a Firebolt and took up racing at 40... I like racing so much I started working out and so far have lost 30 lbs... What I get from all of this.... Buying a Buell could be good for your health and add years to your life.... GET THE XT!!! |

Oh Crap Dan, don't give that that too old stuff. I bought my FIRST motorcycle when I was 53. I've got 11 years on you. I love my Blast and I'm already planning the purchase of an XB12. If you want to spend the rest of your life eating mush and an thinking woulda, shoulda coulda thoughts go right ahead but I don't think that's your style. You wouldn't be on this site at all if it were. Remember a ship is safe in the harbor but that is not why ships are build. |

I have a vision! My dealer has the new 1125CR, in red. I sat on this machine and have envisioned it with Ulysses handle bars, a small windshield(ala-Uly), a set of H-P bags, and a full tank of gas. Now before youme, look at this....... I might be old and warped in the head(a little), but that seems like it would meet the specs for the water cooled - higher powered - ultimate speed/handling/cruising/touring bike. |

You guys are killing me. I think the fever is getting worse. BTW, I have test ridden every Buell there is except the new CR. Some of the test rides were pretty short though. Of all the ones I have ridden, I actually liked the XT the best I think. That may be because the 1125 I rode seemed to have real rideability issues at low rpms. Or maybe it was me. All I know was I choked it off 2 or 3 times trying to start out. That hasn't happened to me on a bike for like, I don't know maybe 30 years. The new ECM updates may have fixed that, or it could have been me getting used to a different bike, but I have test ridden a number of BMWs, Ducatis. and all the other Buells without that problem. The bike just didn't seem happy at all. The Firebolt I test rode was a blast, but even after the short ride my neck beginning to get a bit sore. Maybe it is something my body could get used to though. The XT just seemed to fit me. I think the bags are a bit ugly. I wish it came without them so I could add whatever bags I wanted, and I wish they didn't leave behind those big hoops when removed, but that bike felt very comfortable, had decent grunt, didn't buffet me with the stock windshield, basically gave me big grins. The Ss was nice too, but I think I liked the XT better. I think I will make a trip to Daytona for Biketoberfest and spend a day at the Buell tent test riding them all again. If the fever doesn't subside, I may see what kind of trade I can work on a new bike. Gee, I just bought new $500 bags for my FXDX. My wife is not going to be happy. |

"The Firebolt I test rode was a blast, but even after the short ride my neck beginning to get a bit sore. Maybe it is something my body could get used to though." Happened to me when I first tested the Firebolt. No longer a problem!!! |
