when backing up, does your belt walk on the idler pulley away from the bike?

mine does now. just replaced the belt, and tires. in the SM it said to check for alignment upon completion, and noticed the belt tries to walk off the idler, but is kept on by the drive pulley. at first it starts to squeak, then the belt teeth pop against the drive pulley's lip. takes just under 1 rotation of the rear tire in the reverse direction. it doesn't walk completely off, but it makes noise, and i'm sure it's not supposed to be like that, i just wanna know what i effed up, if it is common, can cause pre-mature belt failure, and what to troubleshoot.
is there any way to adjust the idler alignment?

it runs fine in the fwd direction.

i searched, but i couldn't sort thought it all to find my answer.

Mine has always made a squeak while backing it up. I have not looked to see if tries to walk off the idler pulley tho.

I do remember so one saying that it had to do with the material weave that makes up the belt, and its pretty normal.

It is the weave orientation that makes it walk, and it is perfectly normal. Ride it for a bit. After it breaks in, the reverse walking will reduce a bit.

Nill,
The XB has never done that but the CR did it for the first 600miles or so and now seems to not be doing it so much. Probly because the travel is to certain point now and should stop doing it (I hope). Only while backing.
I was tryen to figure why only backing and see that weave orientation may be it ?

does it matter which way the belt is installed? i put it on so the part # is right-side-up when standing next to the belt installed. that's how i remember it before, at least.

and this belt all ready has 2600 mi on it. it was a friends spare, that he so kindly donated.

i'm not bothered by the squeaking, but the popping is what raises my brow. i always have had the belt guards on, so i never wouldda noticed the walking. it walks hard enough to try and jump the drive pulley.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>caution: the below questions may require one to push a buell backwards almost 6 feet and then inspect the belt/idler pulley<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

does/has any one's belt popped against the drive pulley lip? how far over the edge of the idler does you belt walk at 1 rotation of the rear wheel in the reverse direction? at one full revolution, mine is popping and at bout 1/4" overhang

mine did that right after my 04+ belt conversion. found out the hard way the idler pulley bracket it different for 04+.
different length and angle which some how caused it to want to pop off when going back less then 5 feet!

installed correct 04+ bracket and fixed it!
belt will walk a little, maybe 1/2 inch, but before it WOULD pop off if i went back far enough.
