I have have 2007 Blast. Love it so much i have put 16000 miles on it riding and camping all round New England. I have had enough trouble with the bike to be alarmed though. Especially providing I have very little mechanical knowledge and have to rely on the shop that sold me the bike which, even with my skills I can see skips over things and last service (10,000) mile took them 3 1/2 weeks, Go figure! I did Manage to work a new Jardine Exhaust out of dealing though! Anyway, my question from a grown weary Blast'er is... Could it make it or would it be very ridiculous to spend a month riding from ME to AZ where I will be in school relying on the bike for two years? I sure would like the adventure and gas savings over my car! I figure a route of secondary roads might be about 4,500 miles of solo riding. thanks for any input. | ||

We do have a few long distance Blastards here. (Maggie checks in when she not riding, which isnt often). I dont know why you have so many problems with your Blast, one does wonder if its your mechanic. Are the newer Blasts of poor quality? Got warranty? Seriously, there isnt any reason you shouldnt be able to make the trip and as with any long trip on a bike, it should be looked over carefully. Is the month just to tour the country? Maybe trailer the bike out (with all your other school stuff)? PS I hope your leaving soon because its going to get cooold! I guess Maine is pretty cold now already though (compared to Arizona). | ||

PPS When you plan your route you may want to visit the Stormfronts section of Badweb and check in with the other Badwebers who live where you're traveling. Many are very helpful and friendly which could come in handy if you have a problem. (as well as the Badweb sponsors) | ||

Check out the RAN on the Badweb. I would try an AM 26 for the rear tire, Maggie has pictures of 3,000 miles on her rear tire and there is no wear at all, I don't have enough miles on the Big Kids Blast to tell yet. Plus that bike is so abused, he was telling me he was "scrubbing" the tire in at the shop the other day after work. | ||

Thanks for all the great advice everyone. I have a lot more to stir the pot with now. A good thorough look over is a must! Maybe even a medium to remove any bad spirits. I bet a stock seat can get pretty darn hot in the desert sun. | ||

MaggieMae, the most serious Blast tourer I know of, has a custom seat. I don't know how well the squishy stock seat would do for a long tour like that. I would have the bike looked over by a good mechanic, with enough time between the servicing and the trip to be as sure as possible that nothing is wrong with the parts or the work that was done during the servicing. |
