JimDucan and Wolf, Thanks for the encouragement. Track weekend synopsis: Roll in with the bikes packed in the horse trailer. I am sure that was a different sight!! But hey, I can haul 3 bikes, all my tools, generator, air compressor, have A/C sleeping quarters and a hot shower if needed!! Got to meet a new friend and fellow Buell rider John (Flynscotsman on another board). John was there for both days as well and he did the RPM race school on Sat. John was also running an 04 XB12R, nearly identical to mine except he was running race slicks w/tire warmers. Day 1, Novice class. Learning the race line. Had fun, was dragging a knee like I was born to do it... Passed just about everyone in the class and even lapped a few... Xopti did some tuning work to get the bike running better... Drug a toe and felt the rear end give a wiggle... I later was told it looked like I was going to lowside, which was a good critique and I know have an idicator to know where MY limits are, or where I need to adjust my riding style... It rained a bit and I got to ride a damp track. Good learning experience. End result; ejected from the novice class!! LOL Day 2: Intermediate/ later Expert combined. I continued on learning the race line... Passed a few riders, a few passed me... Xopti did some minor tweaks on my bike... I was getting even faster... I was able to hang with the Flynscotsman!!... RAIN... It rained and got the track pretty wet. This was a GREAT experience!! For one session I had the track mostly to myself, then with about 3 other guys... I was able to catch and pass one in the rain and managed to hold off an R-6... I was able to find the limit of traction WITHOUT crashing!!! It felt kinda creepy when the rear was trying to break loose in the corner!! I was able to get really good straight line accelleration and braking in the rain. Things to work on... Accellerating farther and braking later... Staying on the race line, making sure my pant legs don't ride up and slide leather instead of the knee slider and second job to help fund the habit!!!! All in all a great time. I believe I am ready for race school now (and more seat time)!!!! |
