One thing to consider is that the Race ECM cannot be "read" by the Digital Technician at the Harley dealer - whereas the ECMSpy-modified "stock" ECM can be read by Digital Technician. |

A few Questions 1. What can the Buell Race Program do in the RACE ECM that ECMspy cannot for the STOCK DDFI-2 ECM? 2. Is Buell not labeling the CD's for the programming? The above link shows a Memorex disk and I am curious if this is the way it is shipped from Buell? 3. Like Hogs I am curious is the new Buell race program based on DOS like the old programmable ECM or is it Windows based? Slaughter mentions that the Digital Technician cannot read the Race ECM, is this why? |

I see a lot of cussin and people trying real hard to be offended by others here. But those same people have failed to answer the simple questions posted here: What makes the race ECM better? The only thing remotely suggested is that one person said "I prefer to have my race bike tuned on a dyno". Agreed- but how would buying this help you? With either the race ECM or a stock one with ECM Spy you would still need to do a ton of dyno tuning to properly tune your bike. How is the race ECM better? |

Maybe ask Buell? I have a feeling there are less safety features on it, and more wide open for tuning. The "Race Use Only" ECM that so many use was made to go along with the Racekit. It has a preprogrammed map and is a plug and play unit. I have a feeling this Race ECM wasnt a simple plug and play unit from the factory. Probably came with no map or a flat map on it, and needed dynoed to get it setup specifically for the bike. |

rocket - are the ALGORYTHMS reconfigurable on this ECM? ( rather than just the maps /lookup data) |

are the ALGORYTHMS reconfigurable on this ECM? We'll see, but I think this is possible in DDFI-3 only. These were the first ECM types where eeprom layout changed due to an update (... of the firmware, I assume). The first versions of DDFI-2 had an OTP microcontroller PIC18Canything that is not re-programmable, strictly spoken. A bootloader could be installed there instead (see AN750), but the EEPROM seemed not to contain any firmware (as far as I know), just the data. Regards, Gunter |

On first glance the factory race is mainly a modified IB310 from eeprom layout and size. Comms parameter changed also. Regards, Gunter (Message edited by id073897 on October 03, 2008) |
