seriously, I think I came across a thread a while back where some folks made there own piggy back connectors..........

i don't have an r. but i did stay at a holiday express last night.
there is a third lead for your headlights. i think it is for a running light. it is unused and comes on and off with your key. that is what i ran the power for my gps from.

Diagnostic plug. Suitability depends on current needed, but no problem to run a satnav or mp3 player.

I don't yet have the service manual (just bought the bike) so I wanted to ask is the circuit that the diagnostic plug is on fused? Also does it run back directly to the ECM?

To be safe draw all your power from the battery, you can add a relay trigered by that third running light lead if you want to. Last thing you want to do is overheat a wire, and then you'll be tracing electrical problems - no fun.

Yes, draw any sizable amount of power straight from the battery.
