Last round of Cdn Superbike...looks like Steve C. is following up last week's encouraging results with an even stronger effort this weekend. He is 4th fastest among a field of 30 or so 1000cc Japanese rivals. Very cool! I'm out of the loop on the "higher horsepower engine" though. Is it modified, or a different version altogether? Any more info available? | ||

Not alot of info out on that new engine. I believe the rules for Canadian superbike specify that the engines have to be production-based, so I would think that it a modified version of the stock engine. Typically, V-Twins have a bit more freedom to tweak versus its IL4 counterpart. Anyone please correct me if I am giving mis-info here... | ||

Anony, if you can divulge--how is it the extra power being attained? Is the power delivery V-Twin-like or pushed towards the top end? Sounds like a good start to the 2010 1125RR version!!!  | ||

Fres, Most likely the extra 25-30 RWHP is achieved in the 1125R mill in much the same way most race engines are augmented, such as some or all of... higher compression, increased rev limit, hotter cams, head porting, race tuned exhaust, race-tuned fuel and ignition mapping, racing alternator/generator. The racing engine is likely stronger across the entire rev range but tuned for optimum race performance, from ~6K through whatever the rev limit might be. | ||

The comparos I've seen with dyno results put the stock 1125R at around 130 RWHP. Modified "slightly" it's giving 160? That seriously rocks! I'd like to see what a "heavily" modified Helicon could do! | ||

What else can you tell us about what "slightly modified" means? Slightly modified means they did every modification they could think of to get more power with reliability in the time available. The latest version of the pods looks like the hot air exits on the sides, not at the rear of the bike like on the original design. It looks more conventional too, and better to my eye. All they have to do now is to narrow the beak.} | ||

Those pods are for race only. If you ran those at "town speed" you will overheat as there are no fans. Z | ||

Surprised they did the top five on the Dyno. They only did the top three at round 1. Not bad 9 pounds lighter and a little over 16 horse power increase since round 1. Round 1 409 weight 138.04 hp Round 7 400 weight 150.74 hp Still 10 shy of the 160 rwhp annoy claimed above. | ||

Might be different dynos. Dynojets report higher values than do Superflow and some others. | ||

The PMP dyno typically reads about 5% lower than most shop dynos. Probably because of the settings they use for the software. It's good for a shop to generate big dyno numbers.  Not necessary for the series dyno though. | ||

Is there one "official" dyno that the series uses? I can imagine that there might be some anxiety over using other dynos that may or may not jive with the series dyno(s). Neat info.... |
