Mine did that once. Loose connection behind ignition switch and display. Fix with dielectric grease and zap straps to make sure plugs stay tight

My bike did that the day after I got the bike. Battery voltage was low. Had just enough power to crank and start but not enough power for cluster to communicate with the ecm. Charge the battery.

Well, this is interesting. I am having the same problem on my brand new 1125r. On the ride home from the dealer, the bike coughed twice, then the instrument cluster went dead. No tach, no speedo, no odometer, nothing except message on cluster.."SERV....COMM FAILURE"
I took it back to dealer a week later for diagnosis. Tech wrote on service ticket that it needs a new ECM. OK, but the bike starts and runs OK even with no instrument cluster communication. I've put about 100 miles on it just going back and forth to dealer. Seems to run OK. Battery doesn't seem to be low. I haven't charged it.
Between traveling for work and weather issues here on the East Coast right now, I haven't had time to take it back to a dealer for repairs. Tech supposedly checked connections to ECM and instrument cluster. How hard was it to take out cluster and check connections at key switch and cluster?

the battery and battery connections are good with good charge. pull the front fairing and you can have easy access to all the connectors at the front. ECM connectors under left pod. the 1125 that i bought in Tulsa had no instrument cluster and still has none but runs fine every time i ride it so far. i have not titled it for the street yet so i probably have not put over 200 miles since repairing. inst cluster on back order for 1 month so far. 5th gear recall not c/w due to b/o at local shop for slightly longer. didn't get through this week after the hurricane to check on that.

i must have in to much of a hurry this morning as when i got home and turned the key on i noticed that the bike was not in neutral. flicked it into neutral, hit the starter button and vroom the bike was running. check the real easy stuff first. cleaned the connectors anyway and hopefully the code will also drop.
thanks for the advice.
