Just got back from the hospital with FB&D. I've very glad I went, it was harder than I expected. We were asked not to post details on the internet, so I'll leave it at that. |

Denise and i and Jim Nance visited briefly with Luciano and his father at the hospital in Durham, North Carolina this afternoon. Little Lucho looked great, all things considered, and he and his father were very gracious and kind to so warmly welcome three total strangers into their lives with no notice like that. we brought Lucho a small bag of miscellaneous moto-swag (which also included some items for his father), and the smile on Lucho's face i wouldn't trade for a million dollars. one of the items in the collection was a spiffy new black ball cap emblazoned with the logo, altho the interpreter struggled a bit converting "Carolina Corner Carvers" to something that made sense in Spanish. :-) we also enclosed a get well card signed, in part, by BadWeatherBikers.com. we were also extremely fortunate to able to express our personal condolences to the Wilson Family, who were visiting with Luciano and his father when we arrived. to be able to hug them and cry with them is also a priceless gift from today, truly something none of us will ever forget. i'd like to thank Tim, the interpreter, for doing such a wonderful job conveying such difficult emotions on our behalf, and special thanks to Geoff Hannen from Red Bull, and his associate (i'm very sorry, i've forgotten her name), for making us feel welcome and understanding why me 'n D felt so compelled to ride 300 miles with the hope of helping in a small way with the healing process. i also had the good fortune to visit with Rubberdown, Twig, Ulywife and Fat Bastard at various different times on the phone today, which was also very cool. thank you Denise, for being you and having the courage and conviction to come along, and the same sentiment applies to our good friend Jim Nance, as well. thank you, ma'am; thank you, sir. Godspeed Toriano Wilson, may you always ride in peace. thank you to the Wilson Family for letting us share in your grief. you have many, many new friends around the world who are pulling for you. and thank you Luciano, and your very kind father, for making US feel special. get well soon, Lucho. Jerry, Denise, and Jim- Kudos to all of you. I struggle enough with visiting people I know when they're in the hospital. Visiting strangers speaks volumes. On a lighter note- I started my new job this week. My new workstation has dual 20" widescreen monitors, so last night I went searching for a pair of 1680x1050 wallpapers to brighten my day. I discovered that some new 1125R photos have been added to buell.com, and whaddya know- they're available in 1680x1050. These two have become a source of great temptation:

thx to all re: our visit with Little Lucho. i wanted to go almost as much for ME as i did for HIM. not sure if that makes any sense, but i felt strongly compelled to see if we could help, with no guarantee we'd even get to see him when we got there, and as it all turned out, it was very spiritually rewarding and still brings tears to my eyes to think about it all. there's a lot more to the story than what i've already posted, but i am SO glad we went, and very amped that Jim came with us, too - that made the visit all the more special. it was a long day, full of uncertainty when we set out, and ultimately turned into a richly rewarding life encounter that i'll never ever forget. thx to Rubberdown for initially posting info from the WERA site about the tragedy at VIR. i am so sorry for you and Twig to have witnessed something so terrible, and i'm glad i've gotten to speak with both of you since then. if any of y'all have a moment, there is new contact info for the Wilson Family posted out on the Quick Board on the "RIP to a fine young man" thread that Rubberdown started. please, please, please take a moment or two to send your condolences to the Wilson's. i can't begin to tell you how powerfully sad it was to meet them the other day - they are absolutely lost in all of this, and it breaks my heart. please show them and tell them that you care. Spike - How is your brother in law doing? Jerry - I've been rather self absorbed lately. It would never have occurred to me to go. I'm very grateful that you occurred it for me. Life is better if you participate. |

On an aside I was up around Goshen VA late last week on Biz, I will be riding up there as soon as I can get some stuff in order, it was "DRAGONESQUE " asphalt and some killer scenery too. U-man, I'm ALWAYS up for some drinks and some BBQ. On the 13th I am having my XT's fork seals replaced (which conveniently means my fork fluid will also get changed) just in time for the 10,000 mile service. After I'm done in Goldsboro I'd be up for 'whatever comes our way'... All, When I'm wrong, I have no problem admitting it. Remember when I said I see more Buell's when I'm on my V-Rod? Well, I just got home (as in East Troy, Wisconsin) tonight. In my entire 1,038.9 miles up here (according to the V-Rod's odometer - each of my 3 bikes tells me a different figure...) I only saw one Buell - a black S3 just before I turned onto 52 in Winston-Salem. I have a sneaking suspicion that it was Kmbuell, but his profile doesn't list a S3 - although I'm relatively sure he's got one. So if it wasn't Kevin, who was it? Ahhhh! the joys of being free!!! Sorry for the ATGATT folks, but I rode the entire 520 some miles today minus my lid. Other than the state of my hair currently - which the folks at the ASS Bar didn't seem to mind - the only somewhat bothersome time was in Indiana when there was a SUDDEN shower with raindrops the size of lima beans. When I stopped under an overpass to put on my rain gear I noticed that there wasn't much rain up ahead so I hammered down, dried off and made the entire trip with essentially no rain. For those into Buell 'toys', I found a cool one today (one that I had no idea existed), which will be posted in due time (probably after I get home from the 105th - lots to do before, during and after)... 1313 |

Brankin - Are your forks leaking? I've been toying with the idea of changing mine, as a PM measure. I too am due a fork oil change, and it seems like a good time to do it. Might put 07 springs in as well. Anyone know if there is a fork rebuild kit, or if you order the parts piecemeal? I'll have RP do the work, but I like to have the parts on hand before I walk in. |

Ferris - Friday!? I will be riding up Friday, but I do not know if I will make it up that far north in time. Carlos, i just tossed the Friday thing out as bait (and caught Nance in the process :-) we won't stay late at the gig in Wytheville - don't want to ride home in the deerkness, and we (probably) have to work early Saturday morning. we plan on being footloose and Fancy free by noon-ish on Saturday, and Sunday is 100% open.* all but one of my recent e-mails regarding all this that were addressed to you and Kristi have bounced back as undeliverable, making ongoing comm a little interesting, but note that Alex and Heather are flying into Greensboro Friday noon-ish and spending the night in Kernersville. they'll be pointed toward the Mountain about midday Saturday, looking for merriment and mischief (alas, cage-bound), and spending the night here at the RidgeDome. *they haven't inked their Sunday plans yet - maybe there's a way we could all do a group thing on Sunday even tho they'll be in a car??? Nance, looking forward to hooking up with you Friday afternoon/evening - i'll drop you another e-mail before then and we can talk of some possible rendezvous ideas. :-) FB |
