Nope. I don't. Paul James doesn't. When it's really warm out, just put a fan facing the motor for a while. Saves weight too.

Any short recommendations? Cheap ones are the best. Better yet, ones that only require me to do...LOL!

Be informed, when you disconnect the fan, it will show up as a trouble code. If you don't mind the light being on, leave it, or you may want to get it to a dealer, or if you ask Paul really, really nice like, he may be able to get get you in contact with some one with the ability to over ride the code.
BTW, I will get the chain drive out Wednesday.

Code on the fan...interesting, but I guess it is part of the very limited cooling system. Must just be a diode or something in line maybe? Wonder if it can be fooled...

Is there a way to read codes? I mean, like, to jump the system? I don't have my service manual yet, so that's why I'm asking. On Suzuki's, I know I could jump two wires on the diagnostic plug, and I could get the code number and go from there...TPS, ignition on #2 cylinder, exhaust servo, etc.

If you're only doing sprint racing, ditch the rotor and stator. You can charge the battery between races. It's a couple "free" horsepower without screwing with reliability... and giving you a tad better throttle response - kinda.

If you start with a fresh charge, you'll have enough juice for a couple engine re-starts if you must shut it down.

Steve, where's the rotor and stator at? RH side? How hard to get to? And will I get a code with that too.

Rotor and stator are inside the left hand side primary cover.

Instead of ditching those, you may want to consider trading the stock battery out for a light weight model, if you haven't already.

Well, I've raced bikes without rotating mass from a rotor, etc. I think the bike needs that pick up a whole lot. A lighter battery can't provide that little extra pick up.

I think lighter batteries are measured in ounces rather than pounds.

Have you tried both on your race bike?

There are batteries out there that are many pounds lighter than the stock battery. You may need to carry a stock battery with you down to pit lane, just in case the bike dies and you can't restart it. You would also need a place to plug that stock battery into the bike, to give that light battery a boost. I don't think we have ever actually had to do that though.

I don't think that removing the rotor and stator, plus replacing the stock battery with a light battery would work. The light battery doesn't have much capacity. The only way you could go that direction would be if you replaced your primary cover with the XBRR primary cover and used the much smaller and lighter XBRR stator.

These are the lightest batteries I know of...

If the stock battery weighs 10 pounds, you'd be loosing 7.75 pounds.

Might equal a little less than 1.75HP gain. Costly though.

I figure on rotor/stator removal and jump-starting. We'll see how it goes.

I have the side case off on a monthly basis so if for some reason it doesn't work out, it can go back the way it was... but a couple folks have done it with no complaints. I figure we're only doing 8 lap races (and a Saturday 20 lapper). Keeping it on the charger between races should be easy.

We'll see how it works. Sept the bike will be back together. October and November will be a low-key return to racing and in 2009, it'll be the start of a full year... locally only.
