hey bryan, if your coming from charlotte, then durham would be pretty far out of the way to vir wouldn't it? Unless you'll already be in this area. Either way I'd love for you to ride with us. -mike |

I live in northeast Charlotte so yeah, looking at the map seems a bit ridiculous to ride to Durham to get to VIR. I may just have to meet you guys up there. |

Bryan, if you happen to ride through Greensboro, I'll ride up to VIR with you. I'm waiting for Rubberdown to call me back to find out what time the racing starts. He called me yesterday and talked me into coming up. I think 29N and 150 would be a good place to meet up. More than likely there is a gas station there. Just saw the schedule. Warm-ups start at 8:30, first race is at 11:00. (Message edited by twig on August 16, 2008) |

Twig, I'm meeting up with 1 of the NCS guys in Salisbury at 8:30. We should be coming through Greensboro shortly there after. Give me a buzz in the morning if you want to meet up. 704 576 2470 |

What a day...I was able to meet up with Mike W. and Rachel at VIR. We had the misfortune of witnessing a horrific wreck involving three rookie riders in the 125 race. It happened right in front of us during the first lap. It was the worst wreck I have ever seen, and will stay in my mind a long time. One guy was able to walk away, one had a fractured femur, but the rider that got nailed by two bikes?, I seriously do not think he made it. I hope I'm wrong. |

Good seeing you Mike, as always. Thanks for hanging with us. I'm still shell shocked as well. I'm praying for those two boys. It's really hard to witness the unthinkable. They did restart the KTM RedBull Rookie Cup 125's at the end of the day while we were packing up, so I'm hoping that's a positive sign. The other racing was absolutely awesome! |

Yesterday was a GOOD day! Today was just as good as I did most of the 10K service on the XT-BOLT. Damn that rear plug on the XB's is a PITA! But back to yesterday. Since I'm leaving in 6 days to ride my V-Rod to Milwaukee I thought I should put some shakedown miles on the V-Rod since I replaced the water pump a couple of weeks ago. A buddy from work with a Raider wanted to ride to Carolina Beach, so my original plan of doing the 10K service on Saturday was changed to Sunday. We stopped at Jacksonville H-D/Buell and I finally was able to pick up a 2009 Buell brochure. In the parking lot, this beauty immediately grabbed my attention:
A 1941 Indian. The guys daily rider after he finished restoring it! Then I turned around to see this:
Until then only the 2nd 1125R that I had seen with NC plates. The owner, dangitall I forgot his name, was given the thorough introduction to BadWeB and C3. His first bike was a X1. He's Buell gonzo, just like the rest of us. Hopefully he will stop by and say hello sometime as I don't think he's a regular internet user. Then someone at Jacksonville told us that there was a customer appreciation event at Wilmington - right on the way to Carolina Beach - so we headed to Crystal Coast H-D/Buell. Sorry Oldog, I inadvertently left my cell phone at home so I had no way to contact you. On the way to Wilmington I saw a dark M2 headed the other way. I swear, I saw more Buell's riding my Harley than I ever do riding my Buell's... In Wilmington I saw my first '09 Buell, a CityX:
I really like the 'nearly all' black of the '09's. The frame has an interesting texture, not as bad as the wrinkle black that H-D engines have, but freaking cool. And it is on the City X bars as well:
I also saw another 1125R with NC plates on it at Crystal Coast, but didn't take any pics of it. After we left Carolina Beach we were heading back to Wilmington en route to Jacksonville and something attracted me to Pure Gold Gentlemans Club. Sure I could say it was the bikes, but in all actuality it was the nearly 2 dozen women in bikinis... Well as we got closer to Pure Gold, the light bulb lit up. They had a bike rally at Pure Gold. Motocross bikes doing wicked jumps, burnouts, stoppies and wheelies, a bike show with some interesting bikes among other activities. A Pure Gold sponsored Buell XB_R race bike (actually there were 2 in the show):
Lots of XBRR parts on both of them, but neither were XBRR's. I took this pic because it reminded me of Ulyssesman's pops Honda chop:
But this was the over the top bike:
A Monster Energy Drink bike with a 502 (cubic inch) Chevy engine. On the way back to Jacksonville from Wilmington I saw that same dark M2... I gotta ride the V-Rod more often...so I can see more Buell's... 1313 |

1313 - I saw the same M2 this weekend.... It looked like my old M2 that I sold to a guy in Jacksonville but it looked like a girl was riding it. |

Cyclone! Dave Barr - you don't ever claim to be that other Dave Barr, do you? I know, it's kinda a bad joke. I take it all back. Seriously, why do I always forget about you in Hampstead? Some weekend that Oldog and I meet up at Old Maple Hill Road, you should join up with us! Or if I ever make it down to Wilmington to eat at a place with a cool name with Oldog we should get together. The riding's probably better at OMHR, but I don't know nothing about Wilmington (other than I no longe rhave to pass through it to get to Myrtle Beach...). Actually the point of this post is for all (that are interested). Also at Crystal Coast I rode a Night Rod Special. I've finally felt the difference the 240 rear tire makes. And the 5 extra hp from the exhaust... And the ABS brakes. And the folded up riding position... The brakes are AWESOME (compared to my '03 V-Rod's brakes), and - NO - I didn't utilize the ABS... The handling takes a short time to get used to. There is definitely more effort to turn a V-Rod with a 240 mm back tire than mine with a 180, but 1) this is easily adjusted to and 2) may be influenced by the position of the bars. Talk about folded up. GREAT for an around the town bar hopper, but not for putting miles on. I couldn't really open it up - following the lead rider on a Fat Bob - but it didn't feel the least bit faster than mine. It's funny that my '03 has been safe for so long... Now that CW illustration that looked like a cross between a V-Rod and a Monster - where do I sign?!?! 1313 |

I hope the other young man heals fully and that the other racer who was up and walking around is o.k., physically and mentally. |

Rubberdown, thanks for letting us know. I was trying to find updates this morning, but could not find anything. I'll be okay, just a bit depressed about it. It should have never happened, not to that degree anyway. His family are in my thoughts. I'll probably give you a call in a few days. Take care Mike... |

Creeker - the WV Rally was this past weekend. However, M2nc and I will be in the VA mountains over Labor Day weekend and the next big ride is Buelltoberfest in Suches the first weekend in October. |

Hey Brankin, kinda of a co-inky-dink that the finish is somewhat similar to how you wrapped you grab handles!! And the only reason you could notice all those Buell is because your lower to the ground in "cruiZER" mode. JKN |

Here's some info on the other Red Bull racer injured at VIR (from the WERA board): Many have expressed how to send flowers/cards to Little Lucho, who is still in the hospital at this time. Lucho had surgery today and is expected to be in the hospital for at least another week or so. Lucho doesn't speak a word of English and feels a bit alone and scared. If you'd like to reach out to him you can mail him at: Luciano Ribodino c/o DUMC Durham, NC 27710 Thank you. Apparently his father is with him and they have a translator.
