My harness did that as well, but I have silverstar bulbs!!!! NO HID. still scratchin my head on that one. did you trace that wire back, either on the harness or the schematic? it goes to one of the fuel injectors. Just a thought, but I don't think the HID ballast was the cause.

I run the relay off of the headlight harness and run a larger direct feed from the battery to run the ballasts and igniters.

I think it's the initial draw that cooks the harness. Once the capsule is lit, the draw is actually less than stock in wattage.

Thanks for the headsup Midknyte, Im definitely going to rewire the electricals for my HID setup now..

I was debating running it direct from the battery, but laziness won out. It's currently using the harness. Seems like laziness might cost me more work in the long run..

Again, appreciate the info! Just sorry that it had to be discovered this way..

There is a heads-up on electrical modifications. Wire gages and connectors are sized by amperage, - to much and you let the smoke out.

I am getting ready to do a HID conversion. If my memory is right, the fine print says that the initial amp draw may be as high a 35 amps, then drops down to around 8 amps during use.

That calls for a separate "power" circuit with it's own fuse.

I will use the original light circuit to trigger the relay, but not to power the HID lights.

I don't think it goes as high as 35 amps, because the dedicated line that comes with the kit has a 10 or 15 amp fuse.

It hasn't popped.

I do agree with what you are saying though.

The initial amp draw is huge, the running ampage is lower than halogen. If I recall correctly.

I'll eventually run mine off the battery. Right now I have a switch wired in (hidden location) I just turn the lights on after I get going.

Ha ha, I remember the smoke principle from electronics. Electricity runs on smoke, once the smoke gets out, no more electricity.
