The timing gears in correct placement, but the bike still does not run correctly. I tried adjust the timing box (not sure what it is called) and still have no luck. Anyone have suggestions?} |

Why were the timing gears(cams) removed? |

It would help to know what the running problem your having is and if you knew why the gears were removed. It is possible something else is bad or assembled incorrectly. First, I would be very, very sure the gears are in correctly. Its very very easy to have them off a tooth (which is why I have so many pictures of them. No doubt on installation!). Its possible the lifters have collapsed from sitting. Did you check the pushrods for straight? Did you adjust the static timing per the manual? Was the oil pump gear drive okay? |

The gears were removed cause the kid I got the bike off of took that cover off by mistake. He was trying to change the stator and took the wrong cover off. I'll check those other things to see. Someone had told me it could be the air/fuel ratio. Is that a possibility?} |

Realistically you should look at it as if the bike ran fine before the cam cover came off. Looking elsewhere for the problem is a bad idea and will further complicate things (unless you have a reason to believe is wasnt running right before the cover came off). A common symptom of the gears being mis timed is the inability to rev very high. It is very possible that you blew the carb boot off/apart if it backfired while trying to get it running. |
