The bike starts up fine, idles around 1050 RPM during warm up but after riding for a while the idle goes up to around 1200-1300 RPM. I was guessing I may have an air leak from intake manifold seal..am I on the right track here? If so, is the seal in question the one between the pipe from behind the air box assembly and the intake manifold (one inlet and two outlets going to heads)? If so, visually it looks fine from the outside, no cracks, tears, etc. There is also a small nipple (looks like vacuum line nipple) right below the intake manifold and it is not being used. Just wondering what it is for. Thanks in advance. |

Check THOSE that you mentioned... IF they are good to go... Do a TPS RESET. Mine did the SAME thing... after the TPS reset all was good. Matt (LEO SOUTH GA.) |

Yeah, sounds like an intake air leak. Lots of folks here replace the gasket (O ring, actually) between the heads and the manifold every couple of years or so as preventive maintenance. If yours are originals, this would be a good place to start. After a TPS reset, if it has been a while since that was done. |

The little nipple is for the carbon canister(emissions). Plug it if it's unplugged. |

Appreciate all the replies. It looks like I need to bite the bullet and get the ECMSPY cable. Just a bit worried about messing things up with the computer. With the nuts and bolts at least I see what I am doing... As for the nipple, I will go ahead and cap it (I assume that's what you meant) but should there be a canister? |

Most likely and intake leak, like the others said. Replace seals ASAP...Pull your plugs, are they white yet? If they are, replace immediately, or bad things may happen to your motor. |

???? my bikes (both my 2000 x1's) always idled slower cold than warm. |

It's not broke. Just set the idle to just under 1000 when the engine is warm. You will have to crack the throttle when cold starting but that's it. |

"...Pull your plugs, are they white yet?" The plugs actually look light tannish color which I think is normal. I'll play with the manual idle adjuster and see if it improves the condition. Really not a big deal just want it to run perfect... Thanks again for all the comments.}} |
