I'm guessing that I installed it the same way you did. I did it twice and the first time was a real pain. I can't say enuf about the performance now that the 'noid is off. It's unreal. (Message edited by usmoto on August 26, 2008) |

USMOTO, What did you use to tie the throttle bodies together? Just wondering, I have seen zip ties, etc suggested here. Looking at doing the mod this weekend. Thanks |

i used black wire ties...but im thinking of drilling, tapping then a small headless allen head with red lock-tite. |

I safety wired mine. Three strands and each pulled tight. |

Just unhooked mine tonight. Can't wait to test it tomorrow. It reminds me of the secondary butterflies used on the I4's that most pull out for improved low end pull. |

Usmoto - unhooking the solenoid fixed the stumble between 3-4K RPM? |

Bigdog, I think the stumble you are referring to is a fueling issue. This mod should not affect that one way or the other. Now it obviously clears up the BIG stumble at WOT in 3rd gear of course.. |

"unhooking the solenoid fixed the stumble between 3-4K RPM?" I had a pretty good stumble at 3K. Just wasn't happy with it at all. It removed the stumble and seemed to give it more get up and go when I give the throttle a good twist. "What did you use to tie the throttle bodies together?" I didn't tie them together. After my little inspection of it, it didn't seem necessary. If I ever have to do it I'll use a plastic zip tie. |

Thanks Fresno - I know about the upcoming re-map that is supposed to fix the stumble, heating issues, etc. I haven't unhooked my 'noid - I haven't had the 3rd gear issue (guess I tend to get it over 5K before I go WOT). USMOTO - just curious - if you keep it at 3500 RPMs in 1st gear - do you/did you have a stumble that feels a lot like a lean condition? |

Bigdog_tim, My stumble is gone at 3500 RPMs in first. What I do feel at 3K and below feels the same as any other vehicle when the RPMs are too low for it to run correctly. Besides that it's pretty damn smooth everywhere else. I was also told by the dealer that it's had two reflashes. I don't know if the second one is the '09 one that everyone has been talking about. |

"unhooking the solenoid fixed the stumble between 3-4K RPM?" I can tell you that my low-end stumble definitely went away with the solenoid removal. Not sure how they are related, other than perhaps the extra resistance to movement of the butterflies that the solenoid may have added. I am now smooth down to a hair below 2.5K RPM, and don't actually feel a true "lugging" until a bit closer to 2K. Before, 3K had a stumble, and anything below that was definitely lugging. At my track day a couple of weeks ago, I experienced the dead throttle/solenoid syndrome. I was hard on the brake entering a right hander and as I transitioned to full power in 3rd it felt like I hit the kill switch. I lost my line and luckily there was no one to my outside. I rolled off and then back on and it was fine after that. It didn't happen again. I ordered the Buell solenoid eliminator and I installed it a few days ago. I locked the linkages together as well. I can honestly say that on my bike, there is absolutely no difference in throttle response and none of the fueling issues below 3500 RPM have been resolved with this fix. But then why should they? After all, this change is supposed to fix the dead throttle/solenoid issue that happens at 3600 rpm & WOT. I'm anxiously awaiting the 3rd reflash from Buell as well as developing the new Drummer. I'd like this bike a lot better if it would at least run at 2500 rpm. On the other hand at a track day, the low rpm issues are totally irrelevant. |

I just unhooked the solenoid throttle cable from the carb and secured it out of the way. I don't understand the need to connect the 2 throttle bodies together. Is this something that has to be done to be effective? |

Big Dog , The solenoid allowed the butterflies to be pulled closed regardless of you pulling the throttle , it is done in the unlikely event one or both butterflies would want be at any different position other than the one you want . not a necessity , but re commended , thats all....IMO |

Well, I just got into mine finally and I haven't wired mine together. I'm not sure that I will, since it's got a spring preload on it that is fairly tight. I don't see the need to tie the primary actuator to the secondary. With the spring preload on it and the solenoid gone, there's really no way for it to close, short of closing the throttle or letting go of it. It's just another spring to close it now. I'd take a pic of it, but it's pretty obvious, once you actually look at how it's set up. Also, only catastrophic failure of the right side linkage would allow one butterfly to remain open more than the other. I'll try to road test it this weekend, but I'm pretty well done with this part of it. I'll most likely get a K&N filter while it's apart and install that before I close it up. Next mod is exhaust, either the HR1 Riot or a Drummer. I'll take a pre-production unit for testing purposes if needed. |

Up date.... as of today with a couple hundred more miles....not so sold on the inner cover off..doesnt really sound mean more like a plastic echo..I still have that surge and lastly it has backfired out of carbs a couple of times with a stall, usually from a quick blip of the throttle on down shift. However the throttle response is incredible (Message edited by 68eb429 on August 29, 2008) |

That stall with a quick blip of the throttle may not be associated with the inner cover being removed. I experienced that from the first day I got the bike. It never happened to me on downshift, but it did on take off a couple times. |

I was very reluctant to do the solenoid fix. I've made mods to bikes in the past that really didn't do anything at all. The noid mod was relatively easy to do and if I ever need to change it back it'll take 5 mins. It definitely smoothed things out and made the bike more "rideable". The bike in it's stock form, minus noid of course, has tons of power and I really don't see myself making any other changes. This is probably the first motorcycle I'll have that I don't heavily modify. Which in my book says a lot for the 1125 designers who hit it right on the head with this bike. |
