hey you guys , i just bought a new 2008 uly xb12x , has any one had any expirence with the metzlers? i have run them on all the other bikes i had previously owned , a 1997 yamaha v-max 1200cc , 2001 suzuki marauder 803cc , a 1987 honda magna v-45 700cc, the metzlers had prover to be very good on all those bikes , i'm just courious if anyone had any expierence with them on a uly, and if so how did they hold up to the pirielli syncs? any ideas will be apperciated , ulyman  | ||

Why in god’s name would you want to run an ME 880 on the XB12x? Even the 616 off the 06 is a better tire on the Uly. I also have had 3 v-max's and ran the 880s. The Max is a different bike, ride and lean radius. Pirelli is a far better tire for the Uly. | ||

I always thought that I loved the Metzlers on my R100RT. Then I got my Uly. I used to ride in fear of grooved pavement. On the Metzlers my front end would wobble and weave on grooved pavement in a most disconcerting manner. I had forgotten the dread of grooved pavement altogether - we don't have much of it in Illinois but over the weekend I rode up to Saugatuck and hit a patch of it on the interstate: the Sync's just soak that crap up. No wobble. No weave. No more Metzler's for me! | ||

It has been my experience that judging a tire manufacturer from an experience of one model of tire does not work well. Metzeler is owned by Pirelli. Pirelli bought them because they were the best in technology and Pirelli wanted that. I have a friend who use to work for Pirelli, he traveled with the Ferrari F1 team for a while. I can't see an ME 880 on a Buell but they are great on my Road Glide. Another model tire might do better on the street than the sync's and last longer. If your going off road at all then the Dunlops or syncs would be better. I have also found one tire might work well on a certain model of bike and not another. Tires are such a compromise you have to look at your riding style, type of pavement or lack of it, and what kind of mileage you want. If your going to bash a certain tire then bash the model of tire not the manufacturer. They make different models for a reason and some are just better than others for certain machines. | ||

Some have used the 160 ME880. I have thought about using them also, wondering if there would be any mileage gain in tire life(although I had one on my Electra-Glide and it didn't last even half as long as a Dunlop 402). It's sort of like fitting the 160 Distanzia. There is a photo on this forum somewhere of a 160 Distanzia mounted, sitting next to a 180 and it's nearly the exact same height. | ||

I just got back to Cali from Sturgis a total of 3326 miles on a set of ME880s that already had 3K on them when I left. I can probably get 2-3K more out of them before theyre toast. You can't grt them in a 180 for the rear but a 160X60 does fit fine! I love these tires and they do work well for longevity. I would generally only get 4K from many other tires I have tried. Steering head adjustment only moves it up in speed, which does help - until she hits rain grooves. Reeeeeally scary to watch when following. She is running a Metzler Lazer on the front, with a suspicious center groove. Hmmm... I might have gone for the 880 front. Now I don't think so. Thanks for that! hey look , i ran a new set of the of the me880's on my vmax , the vmax owners manual says rear tire life expectancy is 1000 miles with intermediet throttle useage , thats with the stock bridgestones, with the metzlers i got 4800 out of a rear and 12500 out of the front , and those were hard miles, plus the bike handeled sooooo much better , just like stevem123 said , their great tires and handle excellent , i do understand that different tires for different uses , plus it depends on your riding style , thanx yall |
