I picked up some mobil1 20w50. When I purchased the bike, the previous owner had the oil changed about a month ago, but he doesn't remember if he had them use conventional or synthetic oil. Does it make any difference if I use the Mobil1 to top off any oil shortages before the next change (Where I plan to use mobil1.)? Or should I go ahead and change it and the filter too? The bike has about 200 miles on the current oil. | ||

I'll defer to the more technical people here on the board for a definitive answer. All I'll say is that I personally would not mix regular and synthetic. | ||

Thats what I was thinking. I may just drain it. Any thoughts on just draining the new oil filter and re-using, or should I just replace it with a shiny k&n? | ||

Change the filter too. Even if you drain the filter, you're not going to get all the oil out. I just put a Walmart filter on. There are all kinds of part numbers in the Knowledge vault so you can use pretty much anything you choose. I buy the Mobil 1 synthetic 15W 50 in the 5 quart jug. It's pretty cheap that way. Changing the oil on the Blast really easy. There are two rubber hoses on the left inside of your frame. Pull the plugs on both to drain the oil. Oil filter is on the right side out where you can get your hand or a wrench on it. It's really not a big deal to change the oil on Blast. | ||

Awesome. I just found the dipstick yesterday, after about a week of wondering where the hell it was. I have an owner's and service manual on order  | ||

I have an owners manual but don't have a service manual yet. I'm hoping for one as a Christmas present. | ||

It's safe to mix oil, but you're better to just go completely synthetic. | ||

just a caveat on the the maintenance manual, Make sure you get the one for your year/model you would have problems if you were to say get a manual for my bike (2000) |
