Went out on the Blast today to get some pictures of scenery and fall colors. Luckilly I pulled over to take some shots and noticed a few drops of something on the carb. Looked at them a little closer found out it was oil. Checked over the motor and it appears to be coming from the front, possibly between the jug and head. Could this maybe be the rocker box gasket? (its an 01) Or is it something else? I have a few pictures. I'll post one for reference. <br><br> Thanks for the help guys! |

Well if its never been changed, thats certainly it (as evidenced by the pictures). |

Yeah, far as I know it's never been messed with. So a new rocker box gasket should do me? How difficult is it to get to? I'm going to be sweet talking my boss into letting me use his shop. hope to be able to do it in the time of a morning. |

Its not bad, but you should definitely use the repair manual. Count on at least 2 - 4 hours of work (can be done faster, but this will be your first time?). |

The online manual is good. It is not hard to do. It takes a couple of hours. |

You know (as wierd as this sounds), looking at those pictures makes me nastologic for my old Cyclone. That was the moment in my Buell ownership experience that I had to decide if I was up to a significant repair. I was pretty intimidated, but I took my time, got the tools I needed, followed the manual carefully, and everything went great. It was a bonding moment with the machine. Two years later, I am rebuilding my transmission completely on my basement shop bench, and don't find it the least bit remarkable. Enjoy the job, it's a good man / machine bonding moment. And make sure you get the new style metal gaskets, not the old paper ones, so you don't have to bond again in 8000 miles |

where do i find the online manual for P3? what pages do i view for rocker box gasket replacement? any special tools needed. i'm fairly mechanical. |

There arent any special tools needed, unless you consider a torque wrench and allen wrenches 'special'. |

Welcome to the Badweb Fastfreddie! The rocker box gasket replacement is straightforward, just dont get tempted to remove the "Do Not Remove" Bracket to get more room to manuver parts around. Try to get your engine at TDC as is is less stress on the rockerbox bolts. |

2000 Buell Blast. I had to take it to HD to get the inspection. I knew I had an old battery and had to shell out $43 to change the front tire, but I told them to look for an oil leak. I smelled oil as I was driving it down to the service shop. They said it was the rocker gasket and replaced it for $$$. When I got home I the only thing I smelled was sealant. I finally got my bike inspected and tagged Saturday with that repair, and got my full license today. I took it out for a good 50 mile ride and got home smelling oil again and noticed it on my shoe and on the frame as in the picture Vortec57 posted above. Is there something else possibly wrong or did HD botch the gasket repair!? |

They may have not gotten the rocker cover breather vent hose attached properly, but if it is leaking like the Vortec pictures above it is probably a botched gasket installation. |

yeah, after redoing the whole top end I thought oil was leaking again as well, turned out to be the breather hose. I pray it's not a botched gasket install. It was a pain in the butt for me to change out all that stuff in my tiny garage. |
