So I just sold my X1. It seemed a bit too tame for a track bike and a bit too sporty for a practical bike. The goal now is to get a 'round town & travel bike and a separate liter-class twin or triple for the track... without breaking the limited funds. Anyway, the XT seems like the ideal practical bike for me, so I recently test rode a 2008 Ulysses XT and a 2008 Ulysses X. The X's 47mm shock felt way too soft for me coming from a Lightning & having a more aggressive riding style. The XT on the other hand, was only a wee little bit too soft, and could probably be dialed in to do the trick. Just curios, since used X's can be had for half the price of new XT's, and they have a 43mm front shock, how hard would it be to get an older X to ride like an XT? Would I have to change out the forks and rear spring entirely, or do the old X's stiffen up pretty well with adjustments? | ||

You might want to look at the Uly section of this web site and do a bit of research for yourself. The X and XT are basically the same chassis/frame setup with rear shock legenth, shock and fork spring rates being a bit different. They have different basic uses, however, the newer Xs has a revised front end geometry that allows it have a faster lock to lock ration than the older geometry on the Ss, STT and XT. The previous post comes from your Badweb Department of Redundancy Department...  Seriously, don't discount that "soft" Uly suspension until you've put a few miles on one. It will soak up mid-curve bumps that would have a Firebolt skidding off into the weeds. I don't know how the roads are where you are, but there's a lot to be said for having that long travel suspension. | ||
