Anyone done a conversion on their XBs....i have a CityX....how easy would it be to mount and find a place for the ballast? only thing i could think is behind the flyscreen....my thought is use a Sylvania SilverStar for the low and the HID for the high....they say the hid needs to stay on when it's first lit...so the coming on then shutting off when i start the bike will be bad on it....so i say use the SilverStar for the daylight running lamp and then just switch the high beam on (HID) for night time use...since the HID will be brighter than my halogen high beam...i don't see why this wouldn't work? only one light on my CityX will stay on at one time...sounds perfect to me? |

i got the kit from xenonrider.com - another guy recommended them to me - they offered a slim ballast and everything fit behind the windscreen - i used it for the low beam so i can still "flash" if i need to with the bright - the HID doesnt even take 10 seconds to be warmed up, i turn on the bike, put my helmet and gloves on and then start the bike, no problems so far |

I just installed mine last week. Got them from www.starrotors.com Can't beat their prices. Ordered Wed, arrived Friday. Takes less than 30 seconds to be warmed up. Once the bulb is warmed up they can be turned on and off, like when you're getting gas. I have an HID bulb for low & high beam. It's a world of difference. I installed one on my 06SX. The Ballast was too big to place under the flyscreen, so I put it inside the air box, I stole the Idea from someone else on Badweb. One of my best mods to date though |

I ordered a complete set from extralights.com, yesterday they are expensive, but there return policy or defect policy is very stout and by talking to a guy on the phone, i am sure that they take care of their customers. I ordered both high and low also, I will let you know how it goes. I have been told that it is an easy job to do. |

guys & gals Im interested n upgrading my UK spec 2007 CityX to HID. I know very little about HID at the moment. Its not easy to purchase from the US and import to the UK so I have turned to eBay for my possible supplier. Im currently looking at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KTM-950-990-Adventure-HID-H7 -Headlamp-Conversion-kit-UK_W0QQitemZ190240192193Q QcmdZViewItem?hash=item190240192193&_trkparms=72%3 A636|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1 318 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-CBR1000RR-Fireblade-H7 -Hid-Xenon-Conversion-NEW_W0QQitemZ180270799122QQc mdZViewItem?hash=item180270799122&_trkparms=72%3A6 36|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l131 8 |

I purchased the HID kit from XenonRiders based on Rah's recommendation. I am EXTREMELY happy. The light is BRIGHT like a mofo. I purchased the H7 kit with the 6000k bulb and couldnt be happier. I thought I was gonna have to splice lines here and there but the install was mindless. They did a fantastic job of pre-wiring everything for you. The installation is literally mindless. It took me more time to figure out where to put the ballast than to install the kit. I get stares in rear view mirrors all the time now. You can totally see drivers float their lanes as they look in their rearview. I wasnt getting that nearly as much with my stock bulb. Very worthwhile upgrade. +1 to Rah and xenonriders.com good stuff! |

do the HID conversion kits from xenonrider have a cutoff so you dont blind oncoming traffic? is the cutoff in the stock headlight sufficient? |

The stock cut-off plate should and I beleive is sufficient. The point of light output of the HID bulb is designed into the same physical location as the filament on the regular bulb it replaces. In the end, there is just more/stronger light output, not different light pattern. |

I just had my headlight housing replaced under the Service Bulletin today. When I got home I installed the HID kit from Xenonrider on both Low and Hi beam. Everything Midknyte has said is true, … and then some! Thanks for the info. I am more than happy.

How did the "technicians" at Carolina Harley do? |

I just installed mine yesterday! I took most of today, and completely cleaned her up, now she is ready to go curve killing. I bought mine from xtralights.com, I got both the high and the low. at 6K Kelvin. It is funny, but the light shines through the reflector bowl in the headlight assembly, giving me a greenish upper half; they are bright! The install is perfect on mine, it took longer to hide the ballasts and get them lined up, so they wouldn't touch anything, then re-install the entire front of the bike. If you look at my bike you cant tell any difference, every wire is hidden, and nothing has changed except the light output! You will truly enjoy the ability to see, and more importantly be seen! |

Amelia at Carolina Buell Harley Davidson hooked me up. Given all that has happened recently, the passing of Click Baldwin, they did a solid job. They are a tight group up there. I have never had any problems with them.

I did a conversion yesterday before work. Running just the low right now but may go to both lights eventually. I don't know though. One is very bright. Took me about 20 minutes and I was finished. Very impressed on how easy the installation was. For what I paid I am very satisfied. DHL shipping from this company was very fast also. I tracked the lights all the way from Hong Kong to here. Shipped the same night I ordered them. I was semi-happy with the stock S lights before but I should've done this long ago since I ride home from work in the dark every night. I used these....http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/381128.html?1218151442 (Message edited by odie on August 09, 2008) (Message edited by odie on August 09, 2008) |

Odie, keep the high beam halogen. If you upgrade both you end up basically losing your flash to pass, and you do not allow for easy emergency repairs. Finding a custom molded HID bulb while on the road is impossible. Finding a cheap halogen is as easy as any auto parts store. |

Bit of a thread drift here, but.... I installed the HID kit by replacing the low-beam bulb.. Ive been reading about how power cycling the ballast is what's hard on the HID system. Turning it on/off or starting the bike. So what I do now whenever I start the engine, is switch the setting to "hi-beam" (which is still stock) and then start the engine. Once everything is running, I flick it back to the low beam (which is the HID bulb). Is doing this unwise? |

Is doing this unwise? That is the proper method. Reepicheap has created his own circuit to do this automatically. |

I was told by Joseph over at www.xenonrider.com to allow a 5 to 8 second warm up. so for us Buellers, turn key on, HID fires up and the fuel pump starts to prime. by the time our little light goes off to start engine the HID is almost all warmed up (buzzing sound goes away from ballast) then start your engines! and all is good. He said the ballasts are tough and will handle the on/off cycle when starting but the bulb is whats needed to be warmed up a bit so no damage is caused. Good as gold!! |

Robert, your explanation on warm-up makes sense and is very helpful. Did Joseph make any comments on flashing a high beam HID for passing? It seems as though an occasional flash might be OK as long as the high beam was already warmed-up. |

I only did the low beam on my XB. I just flip the switch to high beam until the engine is running. Then I switch it to the low beam HID. This way there are no worries about turning it on and off and on again. |
