I have never been happy with the lever feel and braking performance on my 9R. Yep, she stopped better than my previous Yamaha and Kaw, but felt very wooden and spongy. I knew the ZTL could do better.

At 6200 miles I figured it was time for some fresh fluid and a pad change. Both are a first for me, and I did the front and rear today in some 3 hours or so. Changed the pads, bled the brakes ,cleaned the calipers/pistons and roughed up the disks with some 80 grit.

Wow. What a difference. My nuts hurt from hitting the tank. Lever feel is excellent and the mushy feeling is gone. Stopping power very much improved. The rear still is weak, as it should be, but much better feel and not an ON/OFF switch any longer. Took her out today for some 35 miles and love the improvement.

Couple things for newbies like me new to brake maintenance: buy a genuine shop manual - worth its weight in gold. And try Simple Green when cleaning the calipers. Works great and not harsh on the seals. YMMV.
