Hello all this is my first post and unfortunatley its for a problem with my 02 blast. im a new rider only been riding for a few months. went for a ride this morning and everything was fine...drove about 50 miles and then got some gas. after i got gas i forgot to reset the trip meter so i did it on the highway and when i looked down the needle on the speedometer was going nuts. it kept going nuts for a while then started working again for a few minutes then started going crazy again and now it doesnt move at all. everything else on the speedometer works (neutral, blinker, needle moves when ignition is first turned on) so is it safe to say that this is the little black sensor located on the right side top of transmission next to the belt that has a wire connecting to something under the seat?? If so do i just replace that piece? Ive never worked on this bike aside from changing the oil so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

i should add that i know what speed im doing pretty well up to 60 just cause the gears have such a narrow range but i was going to get it inspected this week so i need to fix this. |

Speedo sensor... pull it and clean it first, but that probably won't fix it. The part the dealer will get you to replace it will be a fixed part and should keep it from happening again. |

Called local dealer, they had the part in stock surprisingly. Replaced it and it works good as new. Thanks! |

No problem! Enjoy your blast, the more I learn about bikes in general, the more the blast impresses me. |

The post 03 XBR's, and all the XBS bikes, don't have the chronic speedo sensor failures that were issues with the pre 03 bikes. Thats when the root problem was fixed. Thats not to say they cant fail... just that failures are far less likely. If its a 12 SS, you might try pulling and cleaning it. It may just be covered with steel fuzz (its magnetic). FWIW. I think the part is between $50 and $60. |
