Had the recall and reflash done and my bike runs like sh^%. WTF happened? Has a rice crispies clicking sound when I accelerate, gearing sucks and their is a hesitation like it's running out of gas. She was running like a champ before the reflash and I debated having it done. Everybody seemed fine so I went with the herd hoping to get better MPG. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see what's up but I am not a happy camper. Hell hath no fury.

The AFV's get reset on the flash. Give it time to relearn. Take it out and run it at 45mph in third gear. Hold it steady at 4K rpm for 4 minutes. |

Spectrum, See funny thing is....here in San Diego, that is nearly impossible. If you DARE do that on the freeway, you'll get run over. In town, you can't go 4 minutes at 45mph ANYWHERE. There are just too many lights and not long enough roads for that. Then factor in traffic and you'd be lucky to get that speed maintained for 1 minute. To the OP, I took my bike in for the reflash and the recall work. When I got it back, there was absolutely no difference in the riding performance what-so-ever. Still hesitates/stumbles, still surges, and still pulling low MPGs. Take it to em and tell them....otherwise how will Buell know that the issue is still present everywhere? |

The only thing that I noticed after the reflash was the cooling fans run independently of each other now. That helps keep the battery draw down when RPM is low. Still runs the same. |

I for one am not 100% sold on the 3rd gear 4-5K RPM as the only way AFV values are reset. Of course - I have no concrete data - but the few times I have bothered to go into diagnostic mode I have noticed that my AFV values continue to change. This may be because I ride from sea level to 6'000 ft pretty regularly - don't know for sure. I am SURE that it will "learn" there - but not convinced that is the only range the ECM gets smarter. I know there are posts on hear of people getting their bikes to smooth out only after a very spirited ride (read - ride the snot out of it). Of course, all that being said - it may be that the 3rd gear 4-5K RPM is the optimum time for the AFV to get smarter. As for the stumbling, poor fuel economy etc - I escalated my issue/concerns. I am VERY confident BMC is releasing a fix sometime early fall/late summer. This matches what my dealer told me from the dealer show (that the '09 calibrations will be available for the '08). I would expect we should see better fuel economy from that calibration as well (even without the new 02 sensor location and throttle bodies). So... 1125Chick - get out and ride it. It will get better - do the 3rd gear thing or ride the snot out it - both should help. Funktron - I am very convinced our fix is on its way. Another 4-8 weeks. |

Well, at least you got your reflash, Michelle. My dealer couldn't get it up... wasted 3 ferkin' hours just yesterday! Yeah, I'd let the bike sort itself out over the next week or so... keep ridin' and let us know what happens. Peace, Takis |

Dude, you need to set your AFV in rural Wisconsin, duh. |

Michelle, I think I may have the same rice crispy noise you have. Wasn't there before, post reflash it's there for the first few minute after a cold start, sound like the same thing? Bryan (Spectrum) suggested checking th oil on mine, it wasn't low, but it had turned a dark brown after the reflash. I was going to change it today but didn't get a chance, may be something to look into. If I get mine changed out soon, I'll keep everyone updated. |

Takis, my dealer couldn't get it to work for my bike either. They said they called Buell Tech and they remote logged in and took care of it no problem. Maybe suggest this to your dealer (maybe they didn't try this or think of it?) |

Hmm.. there's a VPN reaching from Buell through the Digi-Tech and to my bike? Next we'll need to have anti-virus software installed on the ECM. |

Sign of the times I guess. I regularly work with guys who have to remote log in to computers and machines in Italy and show them how to do things. One of these days things will hopefully change so I can do my job while sitting on the beach in the Caymans... Scary to think, that we are integrating technology into everything that can be connected, just found out last week they now have GPS units that talk to each other and update the maps, traffic, software, all automatic. Before you know it, everything in our lives will probably be this way... Sorry for the hijack Michelle, back to the issues at hand... |

The Buell tech told me that they had to upgrade their Digi-Tech software (firmware?), and that would likely correct the problem... we'll see. Thanks for the tip, Nate. I'll let them know... |

Ok then. I was pretty PO'd. I thought they wrecked my baby. I read the threads yesterday and did check the oil last night, a little low but not dk brown. The goober should have topped it off but... I'll do the RPM thing and also, "ride the snot out of her" that's the best part of this fiasco. I also look forward to updates. Thanks for the group hug I feel much better. I'll call the tech today and at least let him know, I agree 100% with Funk, I gotta share with them the stats so they keep us updated on fixes. Rubber side down this weekend Buellers!

There is an anony post on another thread that makes it clear that the current re-flash is to do with cooling fan and fuel pump cycling only. No fuel/timing map changes whatsoever, ergo, the bike will run the same pre- and post-flash. The '09 mapping IS different and will be available for updating '08 bikes when the homologation process has been completed. |

1125chick, I had to reset TPS after the reflash, and after the noid eliminator was installed. Simple procedure: Run switch on, key on, full throttle for 3 sec, min throttle for 3 sec, repeat three times (engine off, of course... ), turn key off. See if that helps. Jack |

Talked to tech yesterday and he said that mine was the second reflash done at their dealer and first one had no problems. He agreed with Spectrum and advised RPM thing. Said something techish about the bike needing to understand what the chip wants it to do and it will adjust itself. He was cool about it all and said if I didn't see some fix after a few rides to let him know. He also said he would keep me posted on updates. He did say he topped off the oil so I don't know how I lost so much but I topped off again and will see how it goes. He also reiterated what Rfischer wrote so maybe I was overestimating the reflash. Thanks for the ad Jack, I'll give that a whirl too, anything can help improve at this point. |
