I live in Nebraska and the best gas i can find is 91 octane. I'm not sure if the type of gas i'm using is causing the problem. Basically when i start my bike it dies. I start it again and it runs 2 seconds longer and dies. It takes a total of 4 tries to get it running. I tried using a little throttle when starting and it revs up fine. Soon as i let off it starts stumbling and dies. Should i just take it in? |

This is common on cold bikes. It improves some as you get more miles on the bike. But at 7K miles I still often have to hit the starter at least twice and some times 3 times when the engine is cold. Once the engine is warm (CT above 150) it starts first try. |

Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems that if I wait until after the "Buell Wisconsin USA" text scrolls completely off before hitting the starter, I can get it to start the first time more often... anyone corroborate that? |

If it's been sitting a long time (at least overnight) and is cool mine will sometimes die. It sounds like your issue is pretty severe but it could be an easy fix like a TPS reset. I'd go ahead and take it in. If you haven't had the recall done yet maybe you can kill two birds with one stone. |

Pariah. As long as I wait for the check engine light to go out and I don't here the fuel pump running I'm usually good to go. I also have to wait for the pump to stop running between start attempts. |

Mine dies EVERY first try when I fire it off cold, but it has always been successful on try #2. |

Hey Burton... thanks for the actual explanation. I hear whizzing and whirring, but wasn't sure what the sounds meant! |

i turn my bike on, let all the noises and lights quit doing their thing, give the throttle 2 twists and it starts right up 90% of the time. |

91 octane should be fine. It is what the owner's manual states. That is what I use in mine and I have no issues starting it or keeping it idling while warming up. One issue could be that your gas vendor has a MTBE blend in the gas (alcohol) and that might affect how the bike runs. |

When cold it dies first time and then its always good on the second try. |

I always let the fuel pump cycle up and wait till the engine light is out. I already had the reflash so ill try the tps reset. |

I live in a fairly warm climate. I took delivery in March, when the ambient was in the 60's/70's. The day I picked the bike up, we had a hell of a time getting it to start/run. Finally, after letting it set for 15 minutes or so, we tried starting it again--without touching anything but the key. (I'd been giving it a little throttle when it seemed to want to die). It started right up, and ran without issue. I learned to not touch anything, except the key, when starting. This is regardless of the temperature. I don't know that this procedure will solve your issue--sounds like it probably won't--but certainly, I found out I don't want to do anything but turn the key when starting my 1125R. |

My issues with starting have been in hot weather. I haven't had issues with cold weather. It seems that my bike runs better in cold weather. Just today I was starting my bike after riding it and I probably held my starter down for 3-4 seconds before it started. I don't get a strong start unless it's cooled off some or it's colder. |

I recognize those starting issues when bike is hot and the ambient is toasty too. Had that issue a long time ago. My dealer replaced the front 02 sensor and that cured it. |

Thanks Doerman. I'll tell my dealer that when I take my bike in. |
