If there is such a thing. Down to my last bike, (last vehicle too; truck laid down yesterday), sitting at a light, one more look to be sure I could make my right. In the target zone just a tad too long. It was a separate right turn lane that curved and he said he was looking to see if any thing was coming, and didn't see the bike around the curve. Heard the squall and felt the impact at the same time. Next coherent moment, I'm laying in the road with an XB9 on my left leg. This would be the same left leg that I have my brace on from my last adventure. The guy that hit me came running up "ARE YOU OKAY?" "Well, if it wasn't for this motorcycle on my leg, I probably would be." I was on the way to the Harley store and was just a half mile away. A guy on a bike came running up and grabbed the bike and the two of them got it off of me and on the stand. I think I'm fine, gonna look at my aching ankle when I get my garbage out to the road. Very little damage visible on the bike. My new left peg was sicking up in the asphalt, but I had enough nub left to ride. Decided there wasn't enough damage to require calling the police. Hated to put the guy through that mess and all it would cost him, and if it comes down to problems, I don't think any body can convict me of backing into him. Swapped insurance info and checked with Progressive to be sure all was okay. Ready to ride on to the Harley place to ask about the headlight recall, so glad I still had a bike to ride. It wouldn't start. Nothing, not a grunt or a light just nothing. I had sent all the guys, that had stopped, on, thinking I was in good shape. I was studying about pushing that far after checking my battery connections. This is where the bragging on Thunder Creek Harley Buell employees comes in. Two employees on bikes stopped after getting off from work(service was closed). One of them went back and got two other guys who were also off work. They grabbed a trailer, came back and loaded us up and hauled us in. One of them was Pete, a Buell rider too!! So nice of those guys to do that. I hated to leave it, and threatened to stay and camp. They told me I wouldn't be the first. After my last one and recent busted femurs and worse I've read about here, I'm such a blessed individual, again! Yes a very nice wreck indeed! Probably pretty funny too, wish I had video. Rotzaruck! | ||

What positive attitude! You amaze me Ed, I'm not sure I'd have been so forgiving. Hated to put the guy through that mess and all it would cost him, Proud to call you friend! Hope you're not too sore this morning. | ||

Definitely a good attitude. My Italian temper could not have handled that. Glad to hear your ok and hopefully the bike is not too bad. | ||

Kudos to the Thunder Creek guys! Thats the way it's supposed to work, always nice when it actually does.  Glad you and the bike still mostly intact! | ||

Glad you're OK if bikeless a(hopefully only) a day or so. Strange to read your post as I had to take my Civic back ti the shop...it was 8 months old when a kid slammed into the back of the guy behind me and then into my new can ($10,000 damage and they wouldn't total it)...of course I was in a car and a bit better off than you. | ||

hey ed, didn't get around to telling the wife about the misshap and when she called me this evening, she wanted to put all the blame on me just because i'll be heading over there again. i can't win for losing sometimes. | ||

Thanks folks! I got spooked this morning when I started to read the info the driver had given me. It was on the back of his (supposedly) business card. I couldn't read much of it AT ALL. The last number in his phone number was a "c". His address and ins. policy number were illegible. I didn't even get his tag number, didn't know what kind of car it was. I was starting to try and figure out how to find all those bikers that stopped to see about me. Right down the street from a Harley Buell dealer has to be at least the second best place to get hit on a motorcycle.(I'm a tad impulsive, but if I was the planning type, I'd have my wrecks near the emergency room; the dealership's not bad though.) The driver was so shook up though, he was doing good to stand much less write. I was addled, but in much better shape than he was. Then my claim guy (Progressive) called and I couldn't give him much info, except the numbers on the card. Feeling foolish by then. He called me right back though. The other guy had already called Travelers, told them he hit me and started the claim. See! I KNEW he was a good guy! They have already had an adjuster to Thunder Creek. I don't think they've even looked to see why it won't run, I'll find out in the morning, I hope. The adjuster called and asked if the rubbed off place on the frame was part of the wreck because that would total it. "Oh No! I told him, I rubbed that off with my brace!" The Traveler's lady called and is going to meet me in the morning and look at my brace. It's gouged and may be crooked, but I'm so knock kneed and bowlegged, I can't tell if it is warped or not. She asked about my knee and my ankle, but best I can tell I'm fine; at least not much worse than before. They are ready to rent me a car as the bike at the moment is my only surviving transportation. I don't want a car though if I can talk the dealership into just making it run and let me borrow it until they have stuff to fix it with. I need my Buell therapy. They had a bunch of bikes in there though, maybe I can borrow it and make it run myself. What a mess, but they've sure got the ball rolling and seem ready to make sure I get things all taken care of. Things are looking up!! Neil, as you come to know more about my life, you'll see you couldn't be at fault here. You'll even be wise to stay far enough away to avoid fallout and collateral damage! But then... you do seem to have your share of adventures too. Hmmm. And so far, every time you are coming to town I almost get killed................ Rotzaruck! Rear ended on a bike. My biggest fear! If that had happened to me, the guys liftin the bike offa me would be sayin "Oh man! Whats that smell?" Im glad the "rearender" was a good guy. He's probably thinkin your a good guy too as you didnt start floppin around screamin for a neckbrace and lookin for a lawyer. I hope you dont get screwed on the bike not starting thing. Im a very defensive driver on my Cyclone but the rearend thing freaks me as we're lookin ahead mostly. If there was a biggass truck infront of you, waiting for a traffic opening, you'd be like a bag of sand right now. Mebey you should buy a lottery ticket!! Regardless, glad your ok. | ||

Man, get that guy's name and take him out to lunch just for being so freakin' honest as to contact his own insurance and tell them what's going on. He sounds like an upright guy and there ain't that many out there. He'd be a good friend to make and keep, if he learns to drive a little bit better. | ||

The notifying your insurance company is a very important thing to do now adays. My Big Kid got rear ended while in his POS Ford, He thought well I'll just pick up the rear bumper, put it in the car and forget about it because he didn't have collision on his car. The Big Kid was able to do a Mini-Torte against the other driver, and when we contacted the other guys insurance company, the insurance company were concerned because the other guy did not notify them about the accident and that would have left the other guy responsible for paying the Mini-Torte. Anyways it all worked out and the Big Kid got a $500 bonus for waiting for the light to turn red. Isn't No-fault wonderful? I hope you get your bike back and the important thing is you are healthy! |
