As far as other manufacturers using a ZTL patent be damned? That doesn't work here. The patent prevents anyone else from using a perimeter mounted disc that is mounted in such a way that it can float. The rotor MUST float or it will warp post haste. This is also why other manufacturers tried it years ago and gave up on it. They couldn't figure out a good way to mount it in a floating setup so the rotors warped. They stopped using it because THEY were too ignorant to figure out a way to mount it properly. They also COMPLETELY missed the boat on it's unsprung mass benefits (it's main and almost entire benefit). Of course they decided it was inferior... They couldn't figure out how to make it superior.

They just can't float it in the same way Buell does. There's other ways. Perimeter discs have been used on airplanes since before Erik was born, and there's plenty of different floating mechanisms that can be seen there.

Can YOU think of a better or comparable way to do it without infringing on the patent?

Maybe they can't either?

That's my point.

July 4th @ Road America:

ASRA National Team Challenge 250K Race:

Dan Bilansky and Clint Brotz took a stock engined Buell 1125R to the overall win in Friday's ASRA Team Challenge 250K Endurance Race beating various IL4 1000cc Superbike class entries. It used a ZTL-II brake.

It's seems ludicrous in light of that and other similar results to continue claiming that the ZTL-II system is inferior. Less mass on the front wheel matters.

A number of the Buell racers are finding that they are able to drive right around the competition on the big sweepers. The front tireis holding. The others are not.

Less mass on the front wheel/brake assembly is important and helps win races.

About ZTL....
I think is not easy for a single rotor carry the load normally carried on two rotors. ZTL or ZTL2 , IN MY OPINION , is a real good project , i like the floating rotor , i like it also because it is different , in my case it worked fine during 3 years of sport street-riding (with a LOT of pads), i consider it a better project respect the similar Braking set-up but...MAKE IT DOUBLE , Two rotors please...lighter calipers and 2 rotors.
anyway like Trojan explained there are many other factors involved(confidence , weight..),... is no possible to determinate an absolute truth.
leaving the brakes for a while...
who knows what happened at Mugello ??
i'm not there this week-end

bye Alessio

Free Spirits bikes at Mugello.

The XB of Roberto broke the two front exhaust studs on the heads but after repairing on Friday he ended up first in his category and eighth on the general classification.

The 1125R broke down due to water pump problems.

Claudio & Cristiana were not there : (

That is all the information that I have at the moment.

thank you Trojan
very bad week-end for Spiller and the official bike of FreeSpirits team.
COMPLIMENTS to Roberto for his 8th place
in the general classification .
8th in Supertwins is really good but the "category" you mentioned ( roadster)...
in aircooled sub-category is usually composed by 1 or 2 or 3 bikes (this is why Supertwins and Roadster raced together)....so very difficult to miss a podium even if you crash...
anyway 8th in Supertwins (with an 88" xb )is great for a beginner , Bravo Roberto.
what you think Trojan if i tell to those ZTL addicted that the other 1125 finished 2ND on podium they'll turn crazy or even more addicted ???
bye Alessio
